Police proposes prosecution against three suspects

The police suggested the district People’s Procuracy to launch prosecution against supervisor teacher Nguyen Bich Quy and driver Doan Quy Phien for committing “involuntary manslaughter” and head teacher Nguyen Thi Thuy for “neglecting responsibility, causing serious consequences." According to police investigation, though Quy neglected to count the number of students having got off the vehicle because she was occupied with helping students get to their class but she still wrote in the school bus attending book that all 13 students had been picked up and dropped off. Driver Phien did not double-check the van because he believed supervisor Quy had counted the students before he drove it to a parking lot at the Academy of Journalism and Communication with Long still inside. Hospitalization resulting from cold exposure

Dr. Truong Quang Anh Vu from Thong Nhat Hospital said that hospital admission rates increase in patients with respiratory problems, asthma and heart diseases. More children hospitalised for seasonal flu

The Vietnam National Hospital of Paediatrics in Hanoi has seen a sharp rise of children who suffer from flu since the middle of November. According to the hospital’s Centre for Paediatric Tropical Diseases, the centre receives around 100-130 patients diagnosed with flu per week. More children hospitalised for seasonal flu The patients mostly contract the three strains of the A (H1N1, A/H3N2) or Influenza B flu virus, including many being just some months old. Anh Duong, four months old, from the northern province of Bac Ninh was taken to the hospital for two-day high fever and breathing difficulty. He was then tested positive to A/H1N1 influenza. Dr. Nguyen Van Lam, head of the centre, said that seasonal influenza is characterised by a sudden onset of fever, cough, headache, muscle and joint pain, severe malaise, sore throat and a runny nose. PM: Efforts to assist people affected by Formosa incident pay off

The government leader made the remarks while chairing a national conference in Quang Tri province on May 17 to review the performance of the steering committee for solutions to stabilise lives, production and business of affected people after the incident. Officials have gained more experiences following the incident, PM Phuc said while lauding Ha Tinh province’s determination to bring the case on wrongdoings in compensating and supporting the affected fishermen to the court. The leader attributed such outcomes to contributions of scientists, members of the steering committee, leaders and the political system at commune-, district- and provincial levels, army and police forces, and public support. He highlighted the publicity, transparency, democracy, accuracy and close supervision in the work.
