Paris (VNA) – The Paris-based Association of Vietnamese Scientists and Experts (AVSE Global) held a round-table discussion on March 18 to review its activities in the recent past and introduce coming projects. Prof. Nguyen Duc Khuong, Chairman of the association, said the AVSE Global , whose predecessor was the Association of Vietnamese Scientists and Experts in France, was established in Paris in 2011 with a view to connecting overseas Vietnamese scientists and experts to capitalise on their potential. At the event "Vietnam Sports Glory" hosted by the Sports Administration under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MoCST), SABECO awarded VND230 million ($9,750) to 23 athletes in fields such as athletics, swimming, football, cycling, weightlifting, and wushu. The hope is for these young athletes to go on and achieve outstanding things in professional sport and bring glory to the country. The award is part of the "Vietnam Wins Gold" initiative that was implemented by the MoCST and SABECO last year to support the training and development of young athletes as they prepare for the SEA Games, and raise the profile of Vietnamese sport in general. The scheme is to spend VND5 billion ($212,000) to support key athletes in training and participating in international competitions. Reviewing the country’s socio-economic recovery and development achievements in 2022, the PM said the macro economy remained stable, major economic balances were ensured, and notably the domestic investment and business environment was improved significantly. During the post-COVID-19 period, the foreign investment disbursement went up 13.5% as compared with 2021, which reflected Vietnam’s attractiveness in the regional and global investment maps, he said. The Japanese government has launched the Asia Energy Transition Initiative (AETI), which includes knowledge sharing, technology development, and deployment of decarbonisation and $10 billion in financial assistance to push forward green energy transition. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida also proposed the Asia Zero Emissions Community (AZEC) initiative during his visit to Vietnam last April. The initiative's goal is to achieve both sustainable growth and carbon neutrality amid growing energy demand in Asian countries.
