British national museum, library introduce items on Vietnam

(Photo: VNA) London (VNA) – Speakers from the British Museum and Library have introduced documents on Vietnam’s culture and its long-standing ties with the UK, at a discovering-Vietnam event held at the D-Contemporary in central London. The March 30 event was organsied by the Vietnamese Embassy as part of its Vietnamese Days in the UK programme lasting from March 28 to April 27. One of the speakers, Sud Chonchirdsin, the curator for the Vietnamese collection at the British Library from 2005-2019, showed visitors to historical documents proving that the Vietnam-UK trade relationship was formed 350 years before the two countries officially established diplomatic relations in 1973. ASEAN leader vows to support efforts against regional haze pollution
Bangkok (VNA) – Secretary-General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Kao Kim Hourn has pledged to support efforts to combat transboundary haze pollution in the region. Hazardous haze affecting several ASEAN member countries was one of the issues discussed by the ASEAN leader and Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha during their meeting in Bangkok on March 30 as part of the former’s ongoing visit to Thailand from March 29 to April 1. UK defense minister visits Vietnam, bolsters bilateral defense partnership
UK Minister of State for Defense Baroness Goldie visited Vietnam on Wednesday and Thursday to continue efforts to strengthen the two countries’ bilateral defense partnership. During the visit, Goldie met with Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of National Defense, and co-chaired the UK and Vietnam’s Fourth Defense Policy Dialogue – an annual bilateral meeting between the two nations which focuses on the future of joint defense cooperation. The minister also visited the Vietnam Department for Peacekeeping Operations as the UK reaffirms its support for Vietnam in developing as a UN Troop Contributing Nation. Chinese director arrested for allegedly killing pregnant Vietnamese accountant
A Chinese director of a company in Binh Duong Province, southern Vietnam has been arrested on suspicion of killing a Vietnamese accountant, who was eight weeks pregnant, at his firm, a local police source said on Thursday. Yang Zhong Wu, 47, of Chinese nationality, was detained on Thursday evening while he was holed up in Pleiku City of the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai, about 460 kilometers from Binh Duong, according to the source. The victim was L.T.M., 30, an accountant of Vinh Nhuan Co. Ltd., located in Binh Duong’s Tan Uyen Town, where Yang is the director. Yang’s arrest came one day after Binh Duong police issued a notice to hunt for him after they examined the scene of the killing at Vinh Nhuan. The examination was made as soon as police received a report from the company's staff who found M.'s corpse in the restroom. Global dealmaking sinks to lowest level in over a decade
NEW YORK/LONDON -- Global mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activity shrank to its lowest level in more than a decade in the first quarter of 2023, as rising interest rates, high inflation and fears of a recession soured the appetite of companies for dealmaking.
