The ceremony was attended by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Nguyen Phu Trong, Chairman of the CPV Central Committee’s Inspection Commission Tran Quoc Vuong, Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai, representatives from some central agencies and localities as well as the family of the late leader, among others. US Navy officers visit Da Nang’s centre for mentally ill patients
US naval officers and patients at the Da Nang Nursing Centre for the Mentally Ill in a group photo (Source: nld.com.vn) Da Nang (VNA) – Members of US Navy ships and aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson visited the Da Nang Nursing Centre for the Mentally Ill on March 6, as part of their first-ever trip to the central city. During the visit, they presented gifts to the centre and took part in different games, such as tug of war, breaking earthen pots, and pouring water into bottles. These games are regular activities of the centre to help patients enhance physical strength and memory. The US naval vessels, including missile cruiser USS Lake Champlain and missile destroyer USS Wayne E.Meyer, began their visit to Da Nang on March 5. In the evening of their first day in the city, an US navy band took stage to the east of the local Dragon Bridge, attracting a crowd of audiences. Japanese navy minesweepers arrive in Da Nang city
Two ships of Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF), Bungo and Takashima carrying 180 officers and sailors are led by Colonel Ikubo Seiji of the Japanese Navy’s Minesweeper Division III. During the stay in Da Nang, the Captains of the ships and the delegation team will meet leaders of the People’s Committee of Da Nang City and the high commands of Military Zone 5 and Naval Zone 3 as well as the municipal famous destinations. The visit is part of the Japan’s Free and Open Indo-Pacific Strategy, aiming at enhancing the existing bilateral relations between the naval forces of the two countries and sharing experiences in minesweeping activities. Cham Islands officials resist plan to send tourist boats from Da Nang

(Photo: VNA) Quang Nam (VNS/VNA) - The Cham Islands off the coast of Hoi An have since 2015 limited the number of tourists permitted to 3,000 per day to protect the vulnerable world biosphere reserve site from being overrun by boats and waste, but the area is in crisis despite these efforts. Leaders of the protected area have expressed reluctance to allow in more boats, but officials from neighbouring Da Nang said they will go ahead with a plan to add a new route to the islands. Hanoi water supplier’s soaring profits
Vinaconex Water Supply Jsc (Viwasupco) reported revenues of almost VND264 billion ($11.43 million) and a gross profit of VND151 billion ($6.51 million) in the first half of this year, a 57 percent gross profit margin. It has seen steady growth since 2012 with demand for water rising as the Hanoi population surges with urbanization. Over the next six years its pretax profits almost quadrupled. Revenues from supplying tap water last year were worth VND469 billion ($20.31 million), while pretax profits were over VND230 billion ($9.96 million). With an equity of almost VND1 trillion ($43.31 million), the company has a return on equity ratio of 24 percent, among the highest of any listed company. The figures are also far superior to any other water supplier’s in. The company’s gross profit margin of 57.2 percent is higher than that of Ho Chi Minh City’s three water suppliers of 31-37 percent.
