Cambodia imposes two-week lockdown on Phnom Penh

Police keep watch on a Phnom Penh street as COVID-19 preventive measures are in place (Photo: Xinhua/VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Phnom Penh capital of Cambodia has been placed under a lockdown for the first time since the emergence of COVID-19 cases in the country at the end of last year. According to an official announcement of the Cambodian government, the two-week lockdown, starting from April 15, also covers the neighbouring city of Takmao. Non-essential travel will also be restricted. The Cambodia n Ministry of Health announced that the country recorded 178 new COVID-19 infections on April 14, of which 149 were in Phnom Penh. Cambodia has to date logged 4,800 COVID-19 cases in total, including 35 deaths. Meanwhile, the Philippine Department of Health said the country saw additional 8,122 cases on April 14, raising the national count to 892,880. The death toll also rose 162 from the previous day to 15,447. Since the start of COVID-19 in January 2020, the Philippines conducted tests for over 10 million people out of a population of 110 million. Lockdown measures have been in place in Metro Manila and four surrounding provinces until April 30 to curb the spread of the pandemic. Also on April 14, Malaysia recorded 1,889 new cases and eight fatalities, bringing the tallies to 365,892 and 1,353, respectively. There were 347,780 recoveries./. VNA …

Vietnam has had 21 new imported Covid-19 cases - PHOTO: VNA HCMC – Vietnam’s total number of Covid-19 cases has increased by 21 to 2,758 this evening, April 15, with all of the fresh cases entering Vietnam from overseas and being quarantined upon their arrival in the country, according to the Health Ministry. Of the total new cases, five were reported in the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre. The five arrived home from the Philippines on Flight VJ2527, which landed at Can Tho International Airport on March 29 and were immediately quarantined in Ben Tre.They tested positive for Covid-19 on April 14 and are being treated at the Ben Tre Province Tuberculosis and Lung Disease Hospital. Five other patients in HCMC include four locals - two women and two men - and an Indian expert. Of the cases, the two women arrived at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport from the United Arab Emirates on April 13, and were found to be infected with Covid-19 two days later, while the Indian expert flew to Vietnam from the United Arab Emirates on April 10 and tested positive for Covid-19 on April 14. For the two male patients, one returned to Vietnam from Qatar on April 11, while the other entered Vietnam from Thailand on March 31. The two were also found to be infected with the disease on April 14. All the five are receiving medical treatment at the Cu Chi Field Hospital. One case was reported in Thai Nguyen, who is a man residing in Nghe An Province. On April 9, he flew back to Vietnam from Japan through the Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi and was sent to a centralized quarantine center in Thai Nguyen. He was found to be diagnosed with Covid-19 on April 15 and is being treated at the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases in Hanoi’s Dong Anh District. Vietnam records 21 more imported Covid-19 patients

21 people who recently arrived in Vietnam from abroad have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, raising the total number of patients in the country to 2,758, the Ministry of Health reported on Thursday evening. Illustrative photo According to the ministry's report, the newly-reported patients include 20 Vietnamese people aged between 21-58 who recently returned to Ben Tre, An Giang, Thai Nguyen, and Bac Ninh provinces, and Danang and Ho Chi Minh cities from Japan, the UAE, Angola, the Philippines, Qatar, and Thailand. They were all sent to local quarantine sites upon arrival and are now being treated at local hospitals. The other patient is a 33-year-old Indian man who landed at Tan Son Nhat Airport in HCM City from the UAE on April 10. He was sent to a local quarantine area upon arrival and tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on April 14. The man is now being treated at the Cu Chi Field Hospital for Covid-19 patients. With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,758, including 910 locally-transmitted cases reported since the new outbreak started in Hai Duong on January 28. As of 6 pm on April 14, a total of 2,445 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases. At present, nearly 39,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home. …
