The vital mission to ramp up foreign capital attraction

January 19, 2023 by vir.com.vn

What were the most outstanding points about Vietnam’s foreign investment capital attraction in 2022? Phan Huu Thang, former director-general of the Foreign Investment Agency under the Ministry of Planning and Investment The statistics were published widely and the spotlight was the record of disbursed capital, but there were many other highlights. The first thing is the government’s drastic and flexible enforcement of resolutions and policies to create an equitable, unrestricted funding environment, simultaneously supporting the foreign-invested enterprise (FIE) community to overcome difficulties caused by the pandemic and political conflicts. The task force followed closely the enterprises’ difficulties to have solutions on time. Besides that, it is necessary to mention the domestic enterprises’ initiative and effort to overcome an infinity of challenges, such as lending rate hikes and the fluctuation of the global market, especially the frozen export markets in … [Read more...] about The vital mission to ramp up foreign capital attraction

Vietnamese writer shares love of homeland in award-winning English-language book

January 22, 2023 by tuoitrenews.vn

Perhaps the biggest turning point in Nguyen Phan Que Mai’s life was the morning she woke up to an email from her literary agent with an offer from Algonquin Books – a New York-based publisher – to publish her very first English-language novel “The Mountains Sing.” A dream Mai, originally from Ninh Binh Province in northern Vietnam, wrote “The Mountains Sing” as a way to spread Vietnamese literature and culture by recounting the story of a Vietnamese family’s journey through the twentieth century, including their trials and tribulations during the French Colonial period, the separation of the North and the South, the Vietnam War, and the present day. Her inspiration for the novel was a deep frustration that language barriers were a major obstacle for international readers who wished to access Vietnamese literature. The books on Vietnam that English-language readers did have access to were primarily about the Vietnam War and written by Western writers who gave their Vietnamese … [Read more...] about Vietnamese writer shares love of homeland in award-winning English-language book

Acclaimed Vietnamese discusses future of local film industry

January 28, 2023 by tuoitrenews.vn

When the CJ Cultural Foundation and CJ CGV Vietnam started the CJ Short Film Project in Vietnam in 2017, the film-makers assigned to the selection and mentoring committees had no clue their choices would be so successful as to earn acclaim at some of the world’s top international film festivals. China and South Korea each held their own iterations of the CJ Short Film Project, though the films selected in those countries failed to reach the same level of international praise as those from Vietnam, according to famed Vietnamese film-maker Phan Dang Di. While Di and his colleague are not shy in admitting that Vietnamese cinema has quite a long way to go before it can arrive at the same strata of international success as its Asian counterparts, they do believe the success of the CJ Short Film Project in Vietnam is a telling indicator of what is to come for the local industry. Pioneering the industry The CJ Short Film Project is not the first attempt at giving local film-makers … [Read more...] about Acclaimed Vietnamese discusses future of local film industry

Hue preserves craft villages for socio-economic and tourism development

January 30, 2023 by en.qdnd.vn

Hue was the capital of Vietnamese monarchy dynasties for more than 300 years (1636-1945), including 13 dynasties of the Nguyen family, the last feudal dynasty of Vietnam. The city, therefore, became a gathering place of many traditional crafts, including unique crafts originating from the system of office crafts or ancient craft villages serving the royals and the elites exclusively. After hundreds of years, Hue today is still a palatial city with golden palaces, citadels, mausoleums, temples and countless treasures from feudal times, which makes the city a unique cultural heritage. Creating that unique and massive heritage complex was none other than the royal craftsmen and artisans of the Nguyen dynasty. There were masters of handicrafts in Hue as well as from all over the country who were summoned to the capital by the Nguyen kings to serve the royals. With skillful hands and great creativity, the artisans created masterpieces of art that satisfied the royals and remained as … [Read more...] about Hue preserves craft villages for socio-economic and tourism development
