Second National Paragliding Club Championships 2022 starts
The second National Paragliding Club Championships 2022 opens on Ly Son Island off the coast of Quang Ngai Province on May 21. The competition comprises individual man and individual women categories and team classification. Each team is made up of a maximum of seven pilots. Pilots will take off from a point on Thoi Loi Mountain and land on the 500-square-meter area. The competition will run from May 21 to 22. Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai Province Nguyen Tien Dung said that the event aims to enhance the strength training movement and contribute to the propaganda on national sovereignty over sea and islands among people as well as promote Ly Son’s tourism. According to the Department for Administrative Reforms under the Ministry of Home Affairs, 19 ministries and sectors, and all the 63 provinces and centrally-run cities were surveyed. Accordingly, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Finance, and the State Bank of Vietnam recorded a PAR Index of over 90 percent. The MoJ topped the list with 91.9 percent. Among the 63 localities, three had indexes of over 90 percent, including Hai Phong at the first place. Quang Ngai province enjoyed the most index growth, 13.2 percent, while Dong Nai, Tien Giang and Ha Nam are only three provinces that saw declines. Huynh Duc Linh, a Vietnamese physical education teacher, is pursuing his dream of teaching swimming to one million kids in Vietnam, spending the last six years teaching over 10,000 students. In 2019, Linh was informed of nine students from Nghia Ha Middle School in central Quang Ngai Province dying in a tragic drowning incident. Since then, Linh and his colleagues have tried to teach swimming skills to children, reaching their target of running courses for over 10,000 kids after six years. Recently, the government has called for far more actions to prevent drowning , making Linh and his team decide to pursue a bigger dream: teaching up to one million kids to swim. The ticket of the express ship service to Ly Son Island in the central province of Quang Ngai has been raised sharply. The ticket will be increased to VND195,000 (USD8.41) per passenger to travel from Sa Ky to Ly Son. The same price is applied for the trip from Ly Son to Sa Ky. Vietnamese whale worshippers rejoice as 300-year-old skeleton restored
After nearly 300 years, two whale skeletons in Quang Ngai Province, central Vietnam have been restored and put on display for public view. It is common practice amongst Vietnamese fishermen to store the skeletons of whales that washed ashore in temples. There, locals worship the bones of these massive sea creatures. In Ly Son District, a string of islands off the coast of central Vietnam, two of these skeletons were recently completely restored for a public display. Grandfather fish Fishermen in Vietnam call whales ‘grandfather fish,’ implying that they are of a high status. Meanwhile, four people in Tuyen Quang and one in Dien Bien were injured. Up to 317 houses in Ha Giang, Bac Kan, Tuyen Quang, Yen Bai, Dien Bien, Lao Cai, Thai Nguyen, Phu Tho, Cao Bang, Hoa Binh and Thanh Hoa provinces were damaged. Meanwhile, in excess of 19,250 ha of crops, 426.6 ha of aquaculture and 6,898 poultry and animals were either inundated or swept away. (Photo courtesy of Ai Tam) Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - Since the Government’s decision on action plan for the protection of the primate species in Vietnam was issued in 2017, a total of 684 endangered douc langurs , including 86 grey-shanked douc langurs (Pygathrix cinerea), one of the world’s 25 Critically Endangered primates , have been captured by rangers and authorities in 80 illegal hunting and wildlife trafficking cases. However, a report by the ENV, an NGO focused on wildlife protection, showed that only 30 per cent of total poaching violations in Vietnam were discovered, while 70 per cent were unknown, meaning that the number of the langurs hunted in the forest was unclear. Germany-invested Framas Group has rented a 20,000-square-metre ready-built factory in KTG Industrial Nhon Trach 2, in the southern province of Dong Nai.
