TORONTO -- A grizzly bear attacked and killed two people and their dog in Alberta's Banff National Park, according to Canadian park officials and a friend of the victims. Parks Canada said in a statement on Saturday night it had received an alert late Friday from a GPS device indicating a bear attack in the Red Deer River Valley west of Ya Ha Tinda Ranch in Banff National Park. The bear was later euthanized after it displayed aggressive behavior, the agency said. The victims were a Canadian couple and their dog, according to Kim Titchener, the founder of Bear Safety and More and also a friend of the family. Titchener, who provides training on bear safety and bear assessments, said such encounters are increasing as more people head outdoors but fatal attacks are extremely rare. National Geographic stops broadcasting in Vietnam
Certain cable network users in Vietnam have reported not being able to access the channels for a few days prior, instead only being notified that "the program was disrupted due to technical reasons". By Sunday, the signal from all three channels were no longer available in all services in Vietnam. National Geographic and Nat Geo Wild are channels focused on science, nature and exploration. Baby TV is a channel geared towards children's contents. All three belong to The Walt Disney Company. The three channels were distributed in Vietnam through MSky company and were available in several broadcasting services, like FPT Play, TV360, ClipTV and VTC, according to the Authority of Broadcasting and Electronic Information. Domestic services however have not mentioned about adding new channels to replace the Disney channels. Vietnam urged to manage dog populations to end rabies-caused human deaths
It’s necessary to adopt lessons learned and work closely with local governments to ensure a decrease in deaths going forward. Vietnam needs to prioritize the management of dog populations to end human deaths from dog-mediated rabies in the country which the viral disease claims between 70 and 100 lives per year.
