On May 16 alone, Vietnam ese athletes secured 20 gold medals, including five in Pencak Silat, four in athletics, four in Taekwondo, two in gymnastics, and two in swimming. Vietnam logs 1,550 new COVID-19 cases on May 16
COVID-19 vaccination (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) - A total of 1,550 new COVID-19 cases were reported on May 16, a fall of 46 compared to the previous day, and two deaths. The latest numbers bring the total national caseload to 10,698,180 so far. Among the new infections, just two were imported and the rest were domestic cases. A total of 1,355 new transmissions were detected in the community. The capital city of Hanoi again recorded the highest number of infections with 437, followed by northern Bac Ninh and Yen Bai provinces with 98 and 76 cases. Fifteen provinces and cities did not report any COVID-19 cases on the day. The two deaths bring Vietnam’s COVID-19 death toll to 43,067, accounting for 0.4 percent of the total cases. A total of 4,723 patients were also given the all-clear on May 16, taking the total number of recoveries to 9,359,763. Vietnam to ban plastic bags from markets by 2030
Vietnam will ban the use of all plastic bags, even in wet markets, from 2030, according to an official of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. Deputy head of the ministry’s Institute of Strategy and Policy on National Resources and Environment (ISPONRE) Nguyen Trung Thang said that currently, manufacturers are considering changes to technology to meet market demand and comply with State regulations. A serial traffic accident between a car, whose female driver was said to be live streaming while steering it, a motorbike and an electric bicycle killed a 16-year-old girl in Lam Dong Province of Vietnam’s Central Highlands region on Thursday. The accident occurred at 7:40 am at the T intersection between 30 Thang 4 and Pham Ngoc Thach Streets in Da Teh District, Lam Dong, local police reported the following day. Siamsport recently published an article entitled ‘Favourite of local football fans!’, highlighting the two games featuring the Thai team in Group B have seen the highest audience in the tournament so far. Thien Truong Stadium, with a seat capacity of 30,000, was nearly full in both Thailand’s faceoffs with Malaysia and Singapore. To show the determination to ensure safety and complete the work on schedule, a safety oath ceremony was held. Starting in March 2020, the construction has completed 70 per cent of the workload, thereby ensuring its schedule so that the new centre can be completed by the end of this year as committed to the Viet Nam Government. In October 2020, the foundation construction was completed. In April 2021, the work completed 30 per cent of the plan and started construction of the floating structure. Vietnam comfortably beat Timor Leste 2-0 at Viet Tri Stadium in Phu Tho Province on the evening of May 15 to progress into the semi-finals of the 31st SEA Games men’s football event as the Group A winners. Nguyen Van Tung and Ho Thanh Minh were on target after the break as Park Hang-seo’s troops concluded their group-stage campagin at the top with 10 points, one clear of Indonesia. TSFC is a program to boost initiatives of developing the aviation industry which was launched by SkyTeam, a global airline alliance with members being the world's large airlines. The program aims to find airlines operating the most eco-friendly commercial flight along with the most sustainable development. The airlines will be assessed on 14 items by International Examiner Council, experts, leaders of the aviation sector. The winner shall be honored at a special event in this June. The Sustainable Flight Challenge has attracted participation of 16 airlines from different countries, including the United States, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, China, the Republic of Korea and so on.
