Vietnamese peacekeeping soldiers and locals in South Sudan. — VNA/VNS Photo HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam’s level-two Field Hospitals No. 3 and 4 on Thursday delivered gifts to refugees at Protection of Civilians (POC) sites in South Sudan, one of many activities to support local people. The two hospitals have been on UN peacekeeping missions in the African country. At the event held in Bentiu, 50 packages of liquid soap and over 100 litres of orange juice were delivered to more than 50 families. In addition to the gifts, medical staff also provided locals with advice and instruction on maintaining hygiene and keeping diseases at bay, especially with the upcoming rainy season and the reemergence of anthrax in the country. The charity event was part of the two hospitals’ handover activities, which aimed to convey a message that the next Vietnamese medical staff will continue charity and humanitarian activities launched by their colleagues to support local people. During the event, the two hospitals conducted the handover of equipment and shared experience in carrying out charity events and other activities to popularize the image of Vietnam, its culture, and people to international friends and people of the host country. The handover activities have affirmed the Vietnamese “blue beret” officers’ aspiration to maintain activities to support local people and continue peacekeeping mission to bring a better life to people in South Sudan. U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam emphasizes importance of trust-building
The U.S. diplomat highly appeciated the good cooperation between the two countries, saying that the areas of cooperation between Vietnam and the U.S. have been broadened. Vietnamese blue beret’s love spread in Bentiu, South Sudan
The program, aiming to support the local people, was carried out right before the L2FH Rotation 3 departed for home after accomplishing its term and handing over the mission to the L2FH Rotation 4. On this occasion, 150 gifts, including notebooks, pencils were handed over to needy students with good academic outcomes. Meanwhile, the medical staff also presented 350 handmade face masks and 20 new sets of tables and chairs to the school. This was the second time that Vietnamese military doctors have come to Liech Primary School and brought meaningful and practical gifts to help the children there have better study condition. In addition, they also organized various games for the children like tug of war, shuttlecock kicking, and soccer. The female peacekeepers also taught South Sudanese students how to draw pictures.
