General Staff reviews task performance in January 2023

Defense leader checks Division 308’s preparations for welcoming new recruits
During the visit, Senior Lieutenant General Vu Hai San checked accommodation and logistic supplies of the unit for new recruits while touring gardens and breeding grounds of Regiment 102 of the division. At the working session with Division 308, the unit’s Commanding Officer Colonel Nguyen Hai Anh briefed the delegation on its preparations for the 2023 recruitment drive. Accordingly, the division has built combat training plan for the first stage, launched refresher courses for commanding officers at all levels, directed affiliates to reinforce training grounds and prepared adequate facilities for the mission. Vietnam develops green agriculture to increase exports to E.U.
Last year, Vietnam’s export revenue of agro-fishery-forestry products set a record high of 53.22 billion USD, up 9.3% year-on-year. However, Europe accounted for only 11.3% of its market share. This is a modest number, although the agricultural sector has optimized many advantages of the E.U. - Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA). One of the main reasons is said to be the union’s high requirements on farm imports, while Vietnam’s agricultural production has yet to meet green growth requirements. According to the World Bank’s report, agriculture is the second highest emitter, accounting for 19% of the nation’s total gas emissions in 2020. About 48% of the sector’s emissions and more than 75% of methane emissions are from rice production. The survey showed that the overall national poverty ratio was 7.52%, with 4.03% being poor households and 3.49% being near-poor families. The highest poverty ratio based on the multi-dimensional poverty standards was in the northern midland and mountainous region, at 21.92%, followed by the Central Highlands at 15.39%, the north-central and central coastal region at 10.04%, the Mekong Delta region at 5.73%, the Red River Delta region at 2.45%, and the southeast region, 0.34%. The northern midland and mountainous region led in both ratios of poor and near-poor households (14.23% and 7.69%, respectively), while the southeast region reported the lowest ratios at 0.21% and 0.13%, respectively. The data of the survey serve a foundation for the ministry to decide poverty reduction and social welfare policies as well as other socio-economic policies in 2023. Vietnam athletes offered $1mn for winning Paris Olympic gold medal
Vietnamese athletes will get US$1 million for each gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, $500,000 for silver, and $200,000 for bronze. The bonuses, which are the biggest rewards ever offered in Vietnam’s sports history, result from a deal signed by the Vietnam Olympic Committee (VOC) and a strategic partner of the International Sports Funding & Support Association (ISF) in South Korea that will sponsor the entire amount.
