Two months since launching the campaign among 10,000 Vietnamese companies, Software Alliance, also known as BSA, which represents some of the world's largest software makers, said eradicating illegal software across Vietnam is a slow process, especially compared to regional peers. In similar initiatives, companies in Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand acquired licensed software for roughly 6,000 local computers while the figure in Vietnam remained at just 200, BSA confirmed. It highlighted a corporation in Indonesia that had legalized software for almost 1,000 in-house computers. Meanwhile, tens of thousands of companies in Vietnam have utilized illegal software, with very few CEOs taking charge of the situation, said Tarun Sawney, BSA senior director for Asia-Pacific. Central bank tightens control of payment systems
The central bank will enhance supervision on the country’s key payment systems. — VNA/VNS Photo The State Bank of Viet Nam (SBV) will enhance the supervision on the country’s key payment systems, according to a newly-issued regulation of the SBV. Under a circular which will take effect from January 1, 2019, the systems include the nation’s inter-bank electronic payment system, the foreign currency payment system (operated by the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Viet Nam), the payment system for securities trading and the finance switching system. According to the circular, the close control is aimed to ensure the safety, stability and efficiency of the systems. It is also designed to ensure payment compliance with the country’s laws. No violation found in Grab-Uber deal: VCC
Grab’s acquisition of Uber in Vietnam did not violate the country's competition law, the Vietnam Competition Council (VCC) has said. Grab's acquisition of Uber in Vietnam did not constitute an act of economic concentration, said VCC. (Source: tuoitre.vn) According to a press release sent by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) on June 19, the acquisition did not translate into an act of economic concentration by obtaining ownership of another enterprise as stipulated in Article 17 of the Competition Law and Article 34 under Decree No 116 on Competition. The decision was made after the VCC held a hearing on the case on June 11 with the presence of all involved parties.
