Be proactive in an uncertain world
Nguyen My Lan - General director of AkzoNobel Decorative Paints Vietnam Your move to the paints and coatings industry has taken many by surprise. Could you share what stands behind your decision to venture into a new field? What impresses me the most about GE and now AkzoNobel is their achievements and culture. If a brand can't prove its worth to customers and employees, it has no future. AkzoNobel’s more than 200-year history is one of constant development, from its goods to its people. It has also made great contributions to the growth of communities and entire societies across the globe. AkzoNobel's philosophy of doing business for a better life is something that resonates on a primal level with me. These shared values and the respect for the company gave me the confidence to I embark on this new journey. Did the COVID-19 pandemic not make this decision harder? Three great street soups in Da Lat
Your browser does not support the audio element. I confess I’m a soup lover, yet another reason for Vietnam to be at the top of my list of foodie destinations since there is no shortage of options day or night. The beauty is although the common Vietnamese soups share the same name and unique place of origin, the ingredients and preparation are different depending on local tastes in each region as well as what’s readily available and fresh. Da Lat is a destination that’s on nearly everyone’s list and the city features unique and delicious food, but, like anywhere, the best hideaways aren’t always easy to find. These places aren’t found in foodie blogs nor in tourist magazines – their success is strictly based on word-of-mouth. They’re makeshift, worn and old, a couple don’t even have addresses, and popular among locals but otherwise not well known. After lengthy searches and comparisons they are the best I’ve found at what they serve. Mi Quang Da Lat Style As most people … [Read more...] about Three great street soups in Da Lat
Techcombank on track for a seat among the top ASEAN banks
Techcombank is on track to be among the top ASEAN banks Techcombank’s rise within the Vietnamese banking industry was highlighted last year when it became the first non-state-owned bank to join Vietnam’s billion-dollar profit club. “Even in the very tough environment we are seeing, our employees have maintained a high quality and reliable service for our customers and this is helping us to deliver stellar performance year after year,” said Jens Lottner, CEO of Techcombank. Last year, the bank continued to reduce costs while focusing on building deposits in its current accounts and savings accounts (CASA), which Lottner described as a “stable and cheap” source of funding. Techcombank’s CASA ratio, which reflects the percentage of the bank’s total deposits that are CASA, jumped from 46.1 per cent in 2020 to 50.5 per cent last year, well on its way to the bank’s target of 55 per cent by 2025. Techcombank’s net interest margin, a measure of the difference between the interest … [Read more...] about Techcombank on track for a seat among the top ASEAN banks
