“Make in Vietnam” products to realize the country’s digital economy ambition

The Hanoitimes - Make in Vietnam Digital Award 2020 is the first of its kind, aiming to promote the development of digital technology businesses in the country. Photo: TH Speaking at the launching ceremony of the "Make in Vietnam" Digital Award 2020 on August 19, Minister Hung said that experiences drawn after a period fulfilling outsourcing orders from foreign partners, from module design to finished products, are the advantage of Vietnamese enterprises in manufacturing make-in-Vietnam products. Make in Vietnam Digital Award 2020 is the first of its kind, aiming to promote the development of digital technology businesses in the country. The awards, organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, seek outstanding products that can serve as pillars in the national digital transformation, thereby helping to turn Vietnam into a digital economy, Mr. Hung noted. Entries need to be designed and developed in Vietnam and solve problems facing the country. They will be awarded in five categories, namely digital platforms, digital products, digital solutions, narrowing the digital gap, and potential digital products. “This year, the award is launched while the Covid-19 pandemic is raging and the whole country is engaging in its prevention and eradication, at the same time making efforts to boost economic development. Therefore, digital products serving the pandemic prevention and fight, as well as education, and job creation in this situation will be a high priority,” said the minister. Local businesses ramp up efforts to maintain production activities amid COVID-19

With local businesses being severely impacted by the first wave of COVID-19 last year, many struggled to get through the pandemic. Following the second and third long-lasting waves, many firms have continued to make sustained efforts in the fight, showing great determination to ensure effective production and business activities. Most notably, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced enterprises to change their production plans to fall in line with the ongoing situation. Indeed, plenty of enterprises of the Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group (Vinatex) have ramped up production by carrying out the orders signed in late 2020 and early this year. Garment 10 Corporation enterprises have also adjusted all production plans, with top priority being given to pandemic prevention and control. In addition, contract orders have been focused on producing and handing products before Tet to partners, while other export orders have also continued to be promoted. Speaking on the first days of the Lunar New Year, Nguyen Hai, chairman of the Executive Board cum General Director of M2 Vietnam Joint Stock Company, says that in the year ahead, despite dealing with the pandemic and declining consumption demand, the company remains determined to change production and business strategies. Moving forward, there will be a specific focus on intensifying investment in key fashion items, whilst also targeting markets that have high levels of consumption. Export of agricultural products of Covid-19-hit localities faces difficulties

Supermarkets start selling agricultural products of Hai Duong Province On February 23, Masan Group said that the retail networks VinMart and VinMart+ of this group had been actively participating in supporting the consumption of safe agricultural products for farmers in Hai Duong Province. Currently, VinMart and VinMart+ in the North were selling some agricultural products of Hai Duong, such as tomatoes, kohlrabi, carrots, cabbage, and guava without profits with expected consumption of about 70 tons per week. In pandemic-hit areas, namely Hai Duong and Quang Ninh provinces, VinMart and Vinmart+ had been prioritizing the implementation of the price stabilization program, promotions, and discounts of up to 40 percent for fresh products and essential foods. Particularly, the price of frozen basa fish fillet fell as much as 39 percent to only VND59,900 per kilogram; frozen squid declined by 21 percent to only VND109,900 per 500 grams; white radish dropped by 31 percent to only VND8,900 per kilogram; tomatoes sank by 22 percent to only VND9,900 per kilogram. According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Van, Head of Communications at Central Retail Vietnam, currently, the Big C and Go! supermarket chains of the group are promoting the consumption of agricultural products to support farmers in Hai Duong Province to reduce economic losses. Big C and Go! supermarkets are applying a promotional program for agricultural products of Hai Duong from now until the end of the crop, with expected consumption of about 70 tons per week. Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Dung, Director of Co.op Mart Hanoi, said that from February 22 to now, besides selling at supermarkets in the area, Co.op Mart Hanoi had also organized more stalls to rescue agricultural products of Hai Duong at 10 points of sale of the Hanoi Cooperative Union.
