The higher competitive pressure make domestic enterprises have more experience and motivation to improve their business capacity, product quality, service quality, and ability to capture the market. Vietnam is a high potential retail market with a size likely to grow to 350 billion USD by 2025. Retail trade will contribute 59% of the total domestic product sales. When foreign enterprises invest in Vietnam, they will improve in their distribution networks in the country and for export. Major retail channels such as AEON, Big C, and MM Mega Market have not only sold Vietnamese goods in their supermarkets but also exported them. As Vietnam has a population of 100 million people with a young population making up about 50%, retailers see big opportunities when investing in both conventional commerce and e-commerce. On May 8, the Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC) signed agreements with 19 industry and locality associations in which it will provide legal support and participate in resolving disputes for association members. Talking to the press on the fringe of the session, deputy Hoang Van Cuong of Hanoi said the Vietnamese economy has been suffering from impacts of both the global economic situation and internal problems. It reached the growth target of the first quarter but is “seriously weak,” making it hard to achieve the target for the whole year. He used to work in South Korea under the Employment Permit System (EPS) program. When we met he told me he had just moved to the island in search of a long-term job. Phuong belongs to the first generation of Vietnamese guest workers who went to South Korea. He worked hard but also thanks to a good South Korean won-dong exchange rate at the time he managed to save nearly VND1 billion (US$42,650) after four years and 10 months, the duration allowed under the E9 work visa. On returning home to Dong Thap Province in the Mekong Delta in 2015, he cleaned up his father's garden, bought a pickup truck and set up a farm to raise cows. But within a few months some disease killed most of his cows and left the rest debilitated, and Phuong even had to sell the truck to pay off debts. Among the petitions, the NA and its agencies cleared up all of the 91 petitions addressed to them, while the government, ministries and centrally-run agencies responded to 2,466 out of the 2,469 petitions meant for them, and the Supreme People’s Court and the Supreme People’s Procuracy addressed all of the 20 petitions in their realms.
