American weather site Accuweathe r has made the same forecast. It said average temperatures in Hanoi on the first three days of this week would be 28-37 degrees Celsius and drop to 26-31 on Friday. In Sa Pa Town, which is situated more than 1,500m above sea level, the highest temperature will rise to 26 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, it said. Pregnant woman saved in suicide attempt in northern Vietnam
A pregnant woman intended to end her life by jumping into water at the Ho Bridge in Bac Ninh Province, northern Vietnam due to a conflict with her boyfriend, but she was saved by police last weekend. The woman was identified as Vang Thi D., aged 28, who lives in Ha Giang Province. A team of waterway police officers from the Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security said Monday that they had successfully rescued a woman who intended to commit suicide at the Ho Bridge spanning the Duong River in Tien Du District in the province on Sunday. At around 3:20 pm on that day, the team dispatched four waterway guards, ships, and vehicles to the scene for rescue efforts after being notified of the case. Rehab center staff held for selling drugs to addicts in northern Vietnam
Police in the northern Vietnamese province of Thai Binh announced on Friday the temporary arrest of a male worker of a rehabilitation center in Dong Hung District after he had been caught red-handed selling drugs to addicts at the facility. Nguyen Xuan Bien, a 40-year-old resident of Kien Xuong District in the same province, was working as a contract medical employee at the provincial center for drug addiction treatment and social care when undercover police officers discovered that he stored and sold drugs to some addicts receiving treatment at the Dong Hung District-based facility. Hoang Hoa Tham, director of the rehab center, affirmed Bien’s arrest shortly after. The Dong Hung District police are working on documentation to handle the case in accordance with the law. Bangchak Corporation will sell electricity for Vietnam from September
Nam San 3A hydropower plant was initially owned by Lao-based Phongsubthavy Group but was sold to Thai BCPG Niwat Adirek, president and CEO of BCPG, disclosed that the company had achieved more than 90 per cent progress on the construction of the 220-kV transmission line project, Nam Tai, in Laos. The Nam Tai project is planned to connect with the transmission line of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) to transmit electricity generated from BCPG’s two hydropower plants in Laos, Nam San 3A and Nam San 3B, to Vietnam this September. “The Nam Tai transmission line project has the capacity to transmit 800 MW electricity generated from hydropower plants in Northern Laos to Northern Vietnam. Northern Vietnamese city to establish new US$193.6mn industrial park
A VND4.5-trillion (US$193.6 million) industrial park is set to be built later this year in the northern Vietnamese city of Hai Phong. The Hai Phong Economic Zone Authority (HEZA) organized a ceremony on Wednesday afternoon to grant an investment registration certificate for the construction of Tien Thanh Industrial Park in Tien Lang District. Construction of the new industrial park, expected to cost more than VND4.5 trillion, will begin later this year on an area of 410.46 hectares. The industrial park is expected to be put into operation before 2025. Speaking at the certificate handover ceremony, HEZA head Le Trung Kien stressed its determination in ensuring the project’s progress by creating favorable conditions for the developer. Tourism authorities in An Giang Province are exploring ways to include trekking in the Bay Nui Mountain region – a new hotspot for trekkers from across Vietnam – in its tourism strategy. Bay Nui (Seven Mountains) is a range of small mountains located in Tri Ton and Tinh Bien Districts, An Giang Province, near the border with Cambodia. At 716 meters above sea level and 7,500 meters in diameter, Cam Mountain is the largest in the Bay Nui mountain range. Vietnam’s first peacekeeping engineering unit promptly set to work in Abyei

Just days after arriving in Abyei, the unit set up two teams for emergency road rescue and repair activities along roads in the northern division - a border area between Sudan and South Sudan. The unit also took over the construction of a workshop for repairing and maintaining equipment, cars and motorbikes of the UN peacekeeping mission, which the first group of the unit had been working on since early May. Low-pressure area to become storm in East Vietnam Sea this week
A low-pressure area is forecast to enter the East Vietnam Sea on Tuesday night and later develop into a tropical depression or storm. As of Monday, the low-pressure area was located in the southern part of the Philippines’ Luzon Island, according to Mai Van Khiem, director of the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting. It is expected to enter the northern or central sections of the East Vietnam Sea around Tuesday night. Between Wednesday and Saturday, the low-pressure area is likely to strengthen into a tropical depression with a probability of 70-80 percent, and later evolve into a storm with a chance of 40-60 percent, Khiem added.
