(Photo: VNA) London (VNA) – Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and his entourage will make good use of the visit to the United Kingdom (UK) to develop further links between the two countries' parliamentarians, according to Mr. Warwick Morris , Chairman of Vietnam-UK Network (VUKN). Vietnam’s second-quarter GDP growth hits a decade-long record high
According to data from the General Statistics Office, along with the impressive second-quarter GDP, the six-month GDP growth stands at 6.4 per cent, which is the best performance in three years. Last year's first-half GDP growth was 5.7 per cent. Manufacturing and processing is the growth engine of the economy as it picked up nearly 9.7 per cent in the first half. Industry and construction growth climbed 7.7 per cent, while the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sectors posted growth of 2.8 per cent in the first half of 2022. Services also grew by 6.6 per cent following the reopening of tourism. Industrial production recorded robust growth across key segments with clothing production up 23 per cent and electronic components up 22 per cent thanks to factories being able to ramp up production with the waning of the Omicron wave. Tropical depression appears in East Vietnam Sea
A low-pressure area in the East Vietnam Sea strengthened into a tropical depression early on Wednesday morning and is forecast to become a storm in the next two to three days. As of 7:00 am on Wednesday, the tropical depression was located 500 kilometers east of Vietnam's Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago, according to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting. The average wind speed was recorded at 40-50km per hour, while gusts reached up to 75km an hour. The tropical depression is expected to travel northwest in the next 48 hours and pick up strength. By 7:00 am on Friday, it will have been located around 350 kilometers northeast of Hoang Sa, packing winds of 50-60km per hour. It will continue traveling in the northwest direction in the next 48-72 hours and develop into a tropical storm. Vietnam to establish industrial environmental index

Quan said the establishment of environmental standards in more than 400 industrial parks and 18 economic zones across the country was to play a significant role in resolving environmental issues, reducing waste and achieving sustainable development. The MPI had been gathering data and feedback in preparation to set up Vietnam's industrial environmental standards. Exhibition highlighting life and career of celebrity Nguyen Dinh Chieu
The event is one of three activities held to celebrate the 200 th birthday of the well-known poet Nguyen Dinh Chieu (July 1, 1822-2022). On display are more than 300 artefacts, documents and photos of the homeland, family and literary career of the celebrity. Ben Tre province has applied VR360 virtual reality technology for the first time to the event, allowing visitors to visit it on their smart phones. Nguyen Dinh Chieu, who was born in Binh Duong, Gia Dinh province (now District 1, Ho Chi Minh City), was a patriotic teacher and poet of southern Vietnam in the second half of the 19th century. Vietnam’s GDP in 2Q hits decade-high
The positive economic performance in the second quarter helped Vietnam’s GDP growth reach 6.4% year-on-year in the six months. Vietnam’s GDP growth in the second quarter of 2022 is estimated at 7.72% year-on-year, the highest since 2011, according to the General Statistics Office.
