Central bank urges property lending caution
State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) has asked credit institutions to limit their lending to the real estate and construction sectors to better control bad debts (Photo: vietnamfinance.vn) Hanoi (VNA) - The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) has asked credit institutions to limit their lending to the real estate and construction sectors to better control bad debts. Under Document 563/NHNN-TTGSNH issued recently, SBV asked lenders to avoid too much focus on real estate customers and maintain credit growth in the sectors within safe limits. The institutions must keep a close watch on lending to the sectors, continuously review and assess the progress of realty projects and their developers’ financial condition, particularly as it relates to their collateral assets, and have measures in place to handle any defaults, SBV said in the document. ExxonMobil petroleum projects in central Vietnam ongoing as planned
"The Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN) has said that petroleum projects in central Vietnam, including projects at sea and on land, are being carried out as planned by PVN, Petrovietnam Exploration Production Corporation (PVEP) and ExxonMobil," Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Le Thi Thu Hang said at a press meeting Thursday. Hang was responding to a reporter’s inquiry regarding a rumor that ExxonMobil was withdrawing itself from the Ca Voi Xanh (Blue Whale) project, a natural gas field offshore Vietnam. PVN, PVEP and ExxonMobil signed agreement frameworks for project development and selling gas from the Ca Voi Xanh gas field in 2017. The gas field, about 88 km to the east of central Vietnam’s shores, is operated by ExxonMobil. The field is estimated to have a yield of about 150 billion cubic meters of gas, according to the Quang Ngai Province Investment Promotion Center. Central HCM City exceeds PM2.5 emissions limits
Transportation activities make up 99 percent of the total CO emissions of HCM City. Le Thanh Hai, Director of the Institute of Environment and Resources, said the average annual concentration of PM2.5 fine dust in Vietnamese cities is about 28 mg per cubic meter, or 3 times higher than the recommended average level of 10 mg per cubic meter. While the air pollution is becoming more serious in large cities, especially HCM City, there is no radical solution to settle the problem to the root. There are approximately 10 million vehicles, which include 7.6 million motorbikes, 700,000 cars and more than 2 million vehicles brought by people from other provinces to the city. A high number of personal vehicles is believed not to strictly observe periodic maintenance, which leads to an increase in the volume of emissions to the environment.
