Hanoi university student crowned first Miss World Vietnam

A 19-year-old college student from the northeastern province of Cao Bang was crowned the new Miss World Vietnam 2019 after beating out 39 beauty contestants in the pageant finale on Saturday night, becoming the first Vietnamese woman to clinch such a title. Luong Thuy Linh, born in 2000 in Cao Bang, was declared Miss World Vietnam in the finale in the central city of Da Nang, a victory allowing her to represent Vietnam at the oldest-running global beauty contest Miss World in the UK this December. Two other young women, Nguyen Ha Kieu Loan and Nguyen Tuong San, claimed the first and second runner-up titles and will represent Vietnam in Miss Grand 2019 in Venezuela and Miss Intercontinental 2019 in India later this year, respectively. Border guards overcome flooding to save locals
In particular, from August 6-10, heavy and prolonged rain in the upper of Ea Sup Thuong lake together with the overflowing of reservoirs inundated low-lying areas in Ea Sup district, Dak Lak province. The floodwater was constantly rising, separating many traffic routes. Route 14C was flooded at the section of Ea H'leo bridge; the inter-commune road from Ia Lop commune to Ea Roc commune was submerged at the spring bridge No.12 section; flooding occurred in village 13 which lies between Ira Rve and Ea Roc communes. These caused traffic jams and difficult travel. According to initial statistics, in Ia Lop commune, 92 houses were flooded; more than 430 hectares of crops, farm produce and more than 1,100 cattle and poultry were destroyed by floodwater. Power shortage worries increase hunger for coal
Cao Son Coal, the company with the largest mining output in Vietnam, on July 19 announced to improve and expand the capacity of the Cao Son coal mine in Cam Pha in the northeastern province of Quang Ninh, to meet high production requirements. Coal mining companies are increasing output to deal with power generation shortages, Le Toan The mine has total reserves of almost 52 million tonnes, with a designed capacity of about 4.5 million tonnes per year. By upgrading the reserves, Cao Son’s coal mine is expected to complete a record high mining output of 6.78 million tonnes in 2022. Phan Quoc Viet, director of Cao Son Coal, said, “We have mobilised equipment to maximise the exploitation of raw coal at the Cao Son mine.
