Lao Dong (Labour) HCM City university builds new dorm HCM City-based Ton Duc Thang University has begun building a dormitory in the South Sai Gon new urban area. The 1,550sq.m dormitory with two 11-storeyed buildings will accommodate more than 2,200 students when it is completed in the next 14 months. Ha Noi allocates VND250 billion for Tet supplies Nguyen The Thao, chairman of the Ha Noi People's Committee ordered that VND250 billion (US$14.04 million) from the committee's reserve fund be used to store goods for the Tet 2010 (Lunar New Year), which starts February 14. The money will be provided to 13 enterprises including Ha Noi General Trading Co, Northern General Food Co, and Viet Nam Intimex Joint Stock Co. The businesses have been told to store enough food to cope with extra demand during the Tet holiday and to stabilise prices during Tet. Prize-winning photography exhibition opens in Ha Noi (15-10-2009) HA NOI — A comprehensive view on Viet Nam's land and people is on show at a photo exhibition entitled Viet Nam - Dat Nuoc Con Nguoi (Viet Nam - Land and People) in Ha Noi. The exhibition showcases 105 photos prize winning from the fifth Viet Nam Pictorial contest organised in co-operation with the Viet Nam Artistic Photographers' Association (VAPA). The contest is held every five years. The organising board received 3,401 photos including 66 thematic collections from 338 professional and amateur photographers throughout the country. Lai Dien Dam (Ha Noi) was the most prolific contestant, submitting 55 photos to the contest. Tran Cao Bao Long (HCM City) won first prize worth VND8 million (around US$450) for his Cong Ma (Carrying Rice-seedling). Photo exhibition revives old Ha Noi (12-10-2009) HCM CITY — An exhibition featuring documentary photos of Ha Noi in the beginning of the 20th century opened in HCM City on Saturday. Ha Noi xua (Ha Noi Yesteryear) displays 150 photographs of the capital city's people, life and architecture in first years of last century taken from local and foreign sources. The photographs are divided into three categories. Ha Noi truyen thong cua nguoi Viet (Traditional Ha Noi of Vietnamese People) has photos that depict its people, streets, temples, trading and cultural activities.
