It had decreased 1.68 per cent, to end Thursday at 1,197.60 points. More than 534 million shares were traded on the southern bourse, equivalent to VND11.4 trillion (US$489 million). Market breadth was neutral with 243 losers and 210 gainers. Securities stocks made strong gains, with gainers including Viet Capital Inc (VCI) and Ho Chi Minh Securities Corp (HCM). On the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), the VN-Index increased 1.46 per cent, to 1,202.82 points. The benchmark last week registered a weekly decrease of 2.6 per cent. Nearly 527 million shares were traded on the southern bourse, equivalent to VND12.3 trillion (US$529 million). Market breadth was positive with 116 losers and 340 gainers. FLC Group names new chairman
Shareholders voted for him to replace Dang Tat Thang, who was appointed in March after his predecessor Trinh Van Quyet was arrested for allegedly manipulating the stock market. Thang now serves as vice president of the company. Nguyen, brother-in-law of Quyet, has more than 17 years of experience in doing business and used to hold leading positions in many businesses. He was also a member of the board of directors of FLC Group from 2013 to October 2017 and from June 2018 to June 2020. FLC said it would focus on restructuring its management model and business plans this year. Several of its key leaders have been detained amid an investigation into possible stock market fraud that caused "serious damage to investors and affected the operations of Vietnam's stock exchange," according to the Ministry of Public Security. Blue chip stocks hit weekly high
The index closed 17.34 points higher after losing 3.4 points Friday. Trading on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange increased by nearly 21 percent to VND12.32 trillion ($529.7 million). The VN-30 basket, comprising the 30 largest capped stocks, surged to the highest in a week with 26 tickers gaining. SSI of leading brokerage SSI Securities rose 6.7 percent, extending its gaining streak to the fourth session in a row. NVL of real estate developer Novaland closed 6.5 percent higher, with trading value highest since last December. Market inches higher on energy, seafood stocks
Indices advanced on Thursday morning, backed by recoveries in energy and seafood stocks after a strong sell-off in the previous session. The market benchmark VN-Index on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) struggled as it curbed the early loss to end higher in the morning trade. Of which, the benchmark rose 0.64 points, or 0.05 per cent, to 1,169.91 points. It gained despite the 30 biggest stocks tracker VN30-Index still losing 2.08 points, or 0.17 per cent, to 1,225.1 points. The southern market's breadth remained in negative territory with more stocks declining than increasing. Liquidity also fell sharply compared to the previous session. Accordingly, the matching value on the HoSE tumbled 35.3 per cent to VND4.42 trillion (US$190.1 million).
