Vietnam Electricity gearing up to keep lights on for dry season

Daily consumption in April was estimated at 779 million kWh while load power stood at about 42,124 MW, rising 5.3 percent year on year. Difficulties are likely to linger on this season in terms of coal supply for thermal power plants . The State-owned group said coal shortages were recorded in Q1, at 1.36 million tonnes lower than the contracted volume, forcing thermal power plants to cut turbines, reducing output by 1.365 billion kWh. Prehistoric relics discovered in Bac Kan cave
Illustrative image (File photo) Hanoi, May 25 (VNA) - Over 700 prehistoric artefacts have been discovered inside Tham Un cave in the northern mountainous province of Bac Kan’s Ba Be district. The discovery resulted from a fact-finding trip undertaken by the Institute of Archeology, the Vietnam Archeology Association, and the Bac Kan Museum. Combing the entire cave, their team found traces of ancient people almost everywhere. Among the artefacts discovered were stone tools made from river pebbles. According to Associate Professor, Dr Trinh Nang Chung, based on the overall study of the relics as well as the structure and age of the sediment, researchers believe that Tham Un was a residence of many generations of prehistoric people . Its early inhabitants belonged to the late Bac Son Culture dating back 5,000 to 6,000 years, while the late inhabitants were from the Late Neolithic - Early Metal Ages dating back about 4,000 years. BIDV, ADB release report on Vietnam’s financial market

This is the first time a Vietnamese financial institution has collaborated with ADB to make a comprehensive assessment report on the Vietnamese financial market, covering the fields of banking, securities, and insurance, he noted. Work begins on $40-million thin film project in Binh Dinh

Kurz International is the first European investor to invest in the 1,425-ha park as well as in the south central province. The US$40-million project covers 12,000sq.m. It is the third invested by Kurz International in Asia. The first phase of the project is expected to be operational in the third quarter of 2023, with a total production capacity of 15 million sq.m of hi-tech film and coating products a year. Depending on operations in Viet Nam, the total investment for the project is expected to be up to $100 million in 10-15 years.
