Vietnam reported six new Covid-19 cases this evening – PHOTO: VNA HCMC – The Health Ministry has confirmed six new imported Covid-19 cases in Binh Duong, Tay Ninh and Kien Giang provinces, sending Vietnam’s caseload to 2,494 as of this evening, March 5. Tay Ninh Province had one new case, a 52-year-old woman residing in Truong Tay Commune, Hoa Thanh Town that entered the province through Moc Bai International Border Gate on February 22. The patient is being treated at Tay Ninh General Hospital. Four new Covid-19 patients, aged between 24 and 28, were reported in Kien Giang Province. They entered the province through Ha Tien Border Gate on February 27 and March 3. They are undergoing treatment at Ha Tien City medical center. A 43-year-old Chinese expert became the latest Covid-19 case in Binh Duong Province. He arrived at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in HCMC on Flight BR391 on February 19 and was immediately transported to Binh Duong Province for quarantine. He is being treated at Binh Duong Province General Hospital. All of the new patients were immediately quarantined after arriving in Vietnam, posing no risk of community transmission. …

The new infections include five Vietnamese nationals and one Chinese expert. Now there are 49,565 people who came in close contact with COVID-19 patients or arrived from pandemic-hit regions under quarantine nationwide, including 1,290 in hospitals, 14,199 in other quarantine sites, and 34,076 at home. Among the patients undergoing treatment, 65 have tested negative for the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 once, 57 twice, and 137 thrice. The Treatment Sub-committee said that 1,920 patients have been declared to be clear of the coronavirus so far. In a bid to live safely with the pandemic, people should strictly follow the Ministry of Health’s 5K message: khau trang (facemask), khu khuan (disinfection), khoang cach (distance), khong tu tap (no gathering) and khai bao y te (health declaration). …

Foreign women report being harassed by young men in Hanoi
Several foreign women have reported being sexually harassed by groups of teenage boys and young men in Hanoi. The municipal Department of Public Security confirmed on Thursday it had ordered local police units to promptly investigate the cases and impose harsh punishment upon the offenders. Officers in Quang An Ward, Tay Ho District previously received reports from four foreign women who said they had been insulted and sexually harassed by some groups of boys and young men ages around 15 to 20 traveling on motorbikes with hidden license plates. Three of the women were staying in Quang An Ward while the other in Tu Lien Ward, also in Tay Ho District. Local media added that some Vietnamese women had also been harassed by these individuals. The incidents took place near the West Lake from late January to February. Police are collecting statements from the victims and eyewitnesses, as well as examining CCTV footage in the area where the incidents took place. They are also searching for potential suspects and have warned the foreign community in the area of such a situation. Quang An Ward police have advised local residents and foreigners in the neighborhood to avoid going outside alone or going to secluded locations. Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh has requested the Hanoi People’s Committee and relevant agencies to promptly verify the reports and impose stern penalties upon those responsible.
