Vietnamese enterprises have begun seeking new business and investment opportunities overseas. Investment abroad by Vietnam's enterprises had grown remarkably in recent years, with 184 projects in effect in 30 countries and territories as of August this year in such fields as petroleum, hydropower, and plastics, according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment's Foreign Investment Agency (FIA). Sixty of these projects, worth about 424 million USD and representing about 46 percent of overseas investment, had been concentrated in Laos, indicating that most overseas investment was still concentrated within the region, said Deputy Minister of Industry Do Huu Hao. Enterprises should not concentrate only on neibouring markets or developing countries, Hao said, but should expand investment into developed nations. Vietnamese enterprises have strengths and potential to fill unmet needs in these markets. Those few enterprises that have invested successfully abroad, however, have been … [Read more...] about Vietnamese enterprises seek new investment opportunities overseas

Ascendas ready for new investment opportunities
Singapore-based Ascendas is upbeat about its development potential in Vietnam despite some headwind. "We are hopeful to have more closed deals," said Foong. In May 2012, Ascendas completed the infrastructure for phases 1 and 2 of the 500-hectare Ascendas-Protrade Singapore Tech Park (APSTP), which focuses on developing industry clusters for the electronics, pharmaceutical and food and beverage production, and general industries. Foong said Ascendas could begin building infrastructure works for phases 3 and 4 of the park once there were signs of new demands. Vietnam, he said, was well poised to benefit from the "China+1 or +2" strategy of multinational firms and he had observed a continuous trend of those companies relocating out of China to South East Asia to reduce costs, especially Japanese investors. Foong said the negative impacts from the global economic woes in the past few years had delayed new investment and expansion plans of many companies contacted by … [Read more...] about Ascendas ready for new investment opportunities

(VEN) - The Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) said that the northern central region has attracted 243 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects totaling US$19.9 billion in registered capital, accounting for 10 percent all FDI capital attracted by Vietnam so far. FIA director Do Nhat Hoang said that although 243 FDI projects in the northern central region accounted for a small percentage of all 13,000 FDI projects operating throughout Vietnam they represented up to 10 percent of all FDI capital in the country. This revealed that FDI projects in the northern central region in general had a capital larger than that of FDI projects in other regions, he said. However, FDI in the northern central region remained disproportionate with its potential. Consisting of six provinces (Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, and Thua Thien Hue), the northern central region has the huge potential. Each of the six provinces had its own advantages and potentials. Ha Tinh was a steel industry … [Read more...] about Northern Central Region Offers New Investment Opportunities
