Hanoi still reported the highest number of infection s on the day with 370 cases, followed by Nghe An with 95 and Vinh Phuc with 91. The national tally reached 10,707,568. A total 3,069 COVID-19 patients were given the all clear on May 21, bringing the number of recoveries so far to 9,393,101. There are 221 patients needing breathing support, while no death was recorded in the past 24 hours. The total fatalities stood at 43,075. Vietnam’s seafood exports to the EU are expected to increase sharply in 2022 Preferential fishery product tariffs The EVFTA, which took effect on August 1, 2020, has provided great opportunities for Vietnam’s seafood exports to the EU thanks to a series of commitments on preferential tariffs. Under the EVFTA, among about 220 tariff lines of fishery products with rates ranging from zero percent to 22 percent, most tariff lines in the high range of 6-22 percent were reduced to zero percent immediately after the trade deal took effect. The remaining tax lines will be phased out to zero after 3-7 years. Shrimp is a major export benefitting from the new tariff scheme’s zero-percent tax rate for 3-5 years, while tariffs on frozen tra fish have been reduced to zero percent for three years. Russia to assist Vietnam in building e-government
Russia has agreed to assist Vietnam in building an e-government as well as help the Southeast Asian country ensure information safety, a Russian deputy minister for digital development said in Hanoi on Monday. Russian Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media Mikhail Mamonov is leading a delegation on a working visit to Vietnam from February 18 to 20. The guests, including Russian experts and firm representatives, had a working session with Vietnamese Minister and Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung in Hanoi on Monday. Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc established the National Committee on E-Government and assigned the Government Office to work with the Ministry of Information and Communications, and relevant agencies to build a detailed plan for the 2019-2020 period, Dung said at the meeting.
