Government proposes delay to submission of draft amended Land Law to NA

At the NA working session (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – The Government has proposed a delay to a submission of the draft Law on Land (amended) to the National Assembly (NA) until the Party Central Committee issues directions on reforms of land-related policies and laws. The proposal was conveyed by Chairman of the NA Committee on Legal Affairs Hoang Thanh Tung during the 15th NA’s ongoing third session on May 24. In the morning sitting, deputies discussed the proposed Law and Ordinance Building Programme in 2023, and the adjustment of the 2022 programme. CAAV proposes delay in construction of runway, taxiway at Con Dao Airport

Con Dao Airport According to the plan, the project will upgrade a runway and taxiway, air traffic management and control works, apron, fuel storage facilities, passenger terminal and auxiliary works. Currently, runway and taxiway upgrade has been implemented on schedule. However, there are no detailed plan for the remaining items of the upgrading project. The CAAV has proposed the Ministry of Transport work with the Commission for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises (CMCS) to approve the investment project as soon as possible, including items such as the passenger terminal, apron and technology infrastructures at the airport. After being upgraded to serve both military and civil purposes, Con Dao Airport will have a capacity of two million passengers and 4,400 tons of cargo per year, and eight parking places. Dong Nai Province makes effort to conserve wild Asian elephants The number of the herd of Asian elephants in Dong Nai Province discovered through the investigation of the elephant conservation project in the province between 2014 to 2020 is 14. Thanks to relentless efforts to conserve staff in the Dong Nai Forest Protection Department, the herd of Asia's elephants is growing well with about 20 ones. Gunman kills 18 children, 3 adults in Texas elementary school, officials say

UVALDE, Texas -- A teenage gunman opened fire at an elementary school in South Texas on Tuesday, killing 18 children and three adults before the suspect was also killed, officials said, in the latest spasm of mass gun violence sweeping the United States. Governor Greg Abbott said the suspect, identified as 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, was apparently killed by police officers responding to the scene, and that two officers were struck by gunfire, though the governor said their injuries were not serious. Authorities said the suspect acted alone. Abbott told a news conference hours after the shooting that 14 schoolchildren had been slain, along with one teacher. Paintings bring ancient Vietnamese architecture to life

HÀ NỘI — Oil paintings featuring unique ancient Vietnamese architecture from across the nation are being exhibited at Văn Miếu–Quốc Tử Giám (Temple of Literature Complex). The exhibition, entitled Kỳ Ẩn Việt Nam (Mysterious Việt Nam), has been organised by the Vietnam National Institute of Culture and Arts Studies in collaboration with the Văn Miếu–Quốc Tử Giám Culture and Science Centre. It is also the first art exhibition to ever be held within the special national relic. It introduces to the public the first 20 artworks of 27-year-old HCMC-based painter Nguyễn Thanh Vũ. The oil paintings of different sizes depict many famous heritages and landscapes from the north to the south of the country, such as Lũng Cú Flag Pole, St Joseph's Cathedral, Báo Thiên Tower and the Notre Dame Cathedral in HCM City. State Bank asks for extension to bad debt programme

The programme, since its implementation five years ago, has contributed to the restructuring of numerous financial institutions and the collection of bad debt during the 2016-20 period, according to Nguyen Thi Hong, Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV). By the end of 2021, the programme had helped handle over VND380 trillion in bad debt, or 47.9 per cent of the country's entire bad debt since August 15, 2017. On average, some VND5.67 trillion in bad debt was processed each month during the period, significantly higher than the VND3.25 trillion per month prior to the implementation of the programme. In particular, the Government has yet to arrange investment for about 171km of the expressway, he said. The Hồ Chí Minh Expressway project approved by the National Assembly in 2004 was once expected to be completed in 2010, with a total length of 3,183km, including its main line of 2,499km and a western branch of 684km long.
