Four Vietnamese universities break into Quacquarelli Symonds global ranking

Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City and its Hanoi sister entered the 801-1000 band of the 2021 rankings, compiled by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a British firm specializing in overseas education, and released Thursday. Last year, both schools had entered the top 1000 in the global ranking. This year, the Hanoi University of Science and Technology made it into the list for the first time, placed in the 1001+ bracket along with HCMC-based Ton Duc Thang University. The list analyzes six factors including academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio and international student ratio to compile the rankings that rate 1,011 universities from 80 countries and territories. Massachusetts Institute of Technology topped the 2021 QS University World Ranking, followed by Stanford and Harvard in the U.S. According to QS, Vietnam National University-HCMC hosts up to 61,905 students and 3,985 faculty staff. Its research output is assessed at ‘high level.’ The Hanoi school is home to around 35,000 students and 2,600 academic staff, with its research output also appraised at 'high level’. The Hanoi University of Science and Technology has a total 128 international students and 1,480 faculty staff while Ton Duc Thang has 417 international students and 1,460 faculty staff. Vietnamese universities have been performing well in other global education rankings too. Vietnam National University-Hanoi and Vietnam National University-HCMC last year entered the Best Global Universities rankings put out by the U.S. News & World Report while Ton Duc Thang University, with two campuses in HCMC, was named among the top 400 global universities in the Times Higher Education’s University Impact Rankings last April. …

Vietnamese Ambassador presents credential letter to Argentine President

Expressing his honour to be the Vietnamese Ambassador to Argentina, Thanh extended Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong’s greetings to the Argentine President and his spouse as well as the Argentine Government and people. He affirmed he will do his utmost to boost bilateral friendship and cooperation in politics, economy, culture, and science and technology. He briefed the host on Vietnam’s recent socio-economic achievements and the outcomes of the recent 13th National Party Congress with major targets and orientations for national development in the new era. President Fernandez appreciated Vietnam ’s economic development achievements, affirming that the country’s success in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic is a bright spot and experience for many nations around the world. Việt Nam, Singapore discuss bilateral relations development

HÀ NỘI — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Phạm Bình Minh and Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan discussed measures to boost bilateral relations during their phone conversation held on Thursday. They shared solutions to increase trade exchanges and economic recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic, and create favourable conditions for travelling. They also talked about vaccination plans against COVID-19 and the possibility to apply a vaccine passport. Foreign minister Minh thanked Singapore for actively supporting Việt Nam as ASEAN Chairman 2020 and a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council during 2020-21 term. He proposed the two sides to continue promoting exchanges of high-ranking delegations at all levels at the appropriate time. He said he hoped Singapore will cooperate and support Việt Nam to get access to safe and effective sources of vaccines. Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian congratulated Việt Nam for its successful organisation of the 13th National Party Congress and for achievements in keeping COVID-19 under control as well as socio-economic development. He said Singapore attached great importance to the cooperation with Việt Nam, particularly during complicated times both regionally and globally. He shared Singapore’s experience about the “Changi connection” initiative to create conditions to allow international business people to meet at Changi Airport. Singapore was willing to create favourable conditions for Vietnamese people to transit in Singapore on their way home to Việt Nam, he said.
