Granting an interview to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA)'s correspondents in Laos on the occasion of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)’s 55th founding anniversary (August 8), Saleumasay said that Vietnam joined ASEAN in 1995, and two years later, Laos also became a member of the group. Since then, the two countries have become active members, making important contribution to the bloc's policy and vision making. Regarding the building of the ASEAN Economic Community, he said that Vietnam is a major country and plays an important role in the region, and has relations with many countries, especially great powers, which is also its direct contribution to the ASEAN Economic Community’s important role in the region and the world as well. Visa launches eco-friendly payment solutions in Asia Pacific
Digital payment service provider Visa announced earlier this week the launch of Visa Eco Benefits in the Asia-Pacific region in order to meet increasing demand for sustainable financial services. Eco Benefits is a suite of sustainability-focused solutions that will help Visa cardholders across the region better understand the environmental impact of their day-to-day payments, the multinational company said in a press release on Wednesday. They can calculate the carbon footprint generated by their Visa transactions, and access options for carbon offsetting or charitable donations from their bank’s website or app. Banks in Asia Pacific that sign up for Eco Benefits will be able to offer these solutions to their Visa cardholders and meet a growing demand for sustainable financial services. COVID-19 treatment (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam recorded 2,074 COVID-19 cases on August 5, which is the fifth consecutive day the daily number of new cases has exceeded 2,000, according to the Ministry of Health . The national caseload rose to 11,192,043. With 9,481 patients given the all clear during the day, the number of recoveries rose to 9,957,655. Meanwhile, there are 46 patients in serious conditions needing breathing support. No death from COVID-19 was recorded in the past 24 hours. The total fatalities stood at 43,094. Defense minister inspects Vietnam Military History Museum’s project and Army Corps 2
