At the event, Soonthorn Xayachak, Secretary of the LPRP Central Committee and head of the committee’s Commission for External Relations, who is the Special Envoy of General Secretary of the LPRP and Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith, said that the LPLP’s 11th National Congress was a success, becoming an important milestone to a new development period of the revolution of Laos. The congress approved a Political Report of the 10th LPRP Central Committee, along with socio-economic development in the 2021-2025 period, as well as the amendment and supplementation of the LPRP Charter, and reviewed the leadership of the 10th LPRP Central Committee. The congress also elected the 11th LPRP Central Committee. Soonthorn Xayachak thanked the CPV Central Committee, CPV General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong as well as leaders of the Party, State and major agencies of Vietnam for extending congratulations to the congress and their Lao counterparts. He also thanked Vietnam for supporting Laos in organising the congress, while congratulating the CPV on the success of its 13th National Congress. Politburo holds meeting with former Party officials
Chairing the event, Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong said the Politburo and the PCC’s Secretariat highly value the great contributions that the former officials have made to the Party, people and country during the time they held important positions in central and local agencies. He highlighted that the country had reaped comprehensive achievements last year. The entire Party, people and army stood united and fulfilled the working programme for the tenure. After the 13th National Party Congress, the people have demonstrated their trust in the Party’s leadership and the country’s future, despite the impact of the pandemic. Three Hanoi students win Japan’s MERRO 2019 scholarships
The Hanoitimes - Japan's MERRO Scholarship is awarded to poor students who have excellent academic achievements, strong will to overcome difficulties and the sense of responsibility to the community and society. The MERRO Scholarship Fund under Japan’s Research Organization for Advanced Technology and Regeneration has awarded scholarships to three excellent students from the Hanoi Medical University, local media reported. MERRO scholarships are awarded to medical students with excellent academic achievements; however, all of them come from poor families, Van added. "The scholarship is awarded to poor students who have excellent academic achievements, strong will to overcome difficulties and the sense of responsibility to the community and society,” the rector said, adding that his university and the MERRO Foundation hope students understand that their study is not only for themselves but also for the society’s benefits. Appreciating the Hanoi Medical University’s support in finding students deserving to receive the scholarship, President of MERRO Group Atsuko Matsuoka said the scholarship fund was established with a view to training human resources - the successive generations in some regions including ASEAN nations. In addition to the JPY120,000 (US$ 1,099) scholarship per year for each student, after graduation, students who received the scholarship will receive support from both Vietnam and Japan to have the opportunity to study in Japan to improve qualifications and professional knowledge. …
