Tourists visit A1 Hill, the site of a fierce fight in Dien Bien Phu valley (Source: VNA) Dien Bien (VNA) – The People’s Committee of the northern mountainous province of Dien Bien has approve a project to upgrade a number of relic sites on the former battlefield of the historic Dien Bien Phu campaign as the 65th anniversary of the victory nears (May 7, 1954-2019). From late 2018 to early 2019, the local cultural sector also conducted maintenance work on the Muong Thanh bridge, the A1 Hill and the Dien Bien Phu Victory Monument. The Dien Bien Phu Campaign lasted from March to May 1954 under the command of General Vo Nguyen Giap. Its victory on May 7, 1954 led to the signing of the 1954 Geneva Accords in which France agreed to withdraw its forces from its colonies in Indochina. Muong Thanh Bridge, a historical relic site that witnessed the victorious battle of Dien Bien Phu, is gradually deteriorating. As such, the local tourism sector has been upgrading the bridge in preparation for the 65th victory anniversary celebrations next year. Muong Thanh Bridge spans over Nam Rom River. This historical relic site once witnessed the monumental victory of Dien Bien Phu in its past. Nowadays, it has become a tourism destination in Dien Bien province. However, over the years, the bridge’s condition has been rapidly deteriorating, badly in need of repair. The repair and upgrade of the bridge is projected to be completed by next January. (VEN) - The province of Dien Bien plans to open eight new points of sale in eight districts and towns this year to make sure that every locality in the province has a Vietnamese Goods Sales Point. Preferential funds will be provided for those points in remote areas and those with sales potential. More than 90 percent of goods on sale at the Hoa Ba Supermarket are made in Vietnam Targeting traditional markets Le Viet Nga, the deputy head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Domestic Market Department, spoke highly of the Vietnamese Goods Sales Point program launched in Dien Bien Province to help local consumers buy high-quality Vietnamese goods in traditional markets. Currently, more than 70 percent of goods for sale in Dien Bien Province are made in Vietnam, but the figure stands at only 60 percent in traditional markets.
