On the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), on which the VN-Index is based, 161 stocks gained and 152 stocks lost. The VN30-Index, representing Vietnam’s 30 biggest market cap stocks, rose 59 percent with 18 stocks gaining and only 5 losing. Eight stocks rose at least one percent this session. Most banking stocks rose this session save for CTG of VietinBank, one of Vietnam’s three biggest state-owned lenders by assets, which fell by one percent. MBB shares of state-owned Military Bank led the gains, with a rise of 3.3 percent, followed by FPT shares of IT giant FPT and MWG of electronics retail giant Mobile World which both rose 1.8 percent. Next were PNJ shares of Phu Nhuan Jewelry and NVL of real estate developer Novaland, which rose 1.6 and 1.4 percent respectively. Singapore tops food security index for 2nd straight year
Singapore has retained its top position in the world in food security for the second consecutive year in the Global Food Security Index. (Photo: straitstimes.com) Singapore (VNA) – Singapore has retained its top position in the world in food security for the second consecutive year in the Global Food Security Index, which assesses if people have access to affordable and quality food to meet their nutritional needs. Singapore is the only country in Asia ranked in the top 10 of the index. With a score of 87.4 out of 100, the city-state was ahead of second-ranked Ireland, the US (third), Switzerland (fourth) and Finland and Norway in joint fifth. Published annually, the Global Food Security Index considers the core issues of affordability, availability and quality & safety across a set of 113 countries. Transnational expressway investor selection to take until August 2020
The three additional months are needed to carry out new preliminary evaluations of investors before they can bid for the public-private partnership (PPP) work, according to a recent report the government made to the National Assembly. Next year, the evaluations are expected to be completed by February, the contractor identified by August, and the tendering process completed by November, the report said. In September the Ministry of Transport decided not to invite foreign bids for the eight sections of the expressway to be built under the PPP model, saying only a few qualified and this could lead to a low level of competition. Sixty investors, half of them Chinese, submitted expressions of interest for the eight sections, but for four of them no investor met all the requirements, while for the rest only one to three did so, the ministry said in a statement. Vietnam stocks edge down after Trump’s latest China tariff threat
The benchmark index fell 6.29 points to close at 991.1 points, with 144 stocks gaining and 169 losing. The VN30-Index, which represents the 30 largest cap stocks, lost 2.1 points (0.24 percent) to close at 885.29 points. The HNX-Index in Hanoi and the UPCoM-Index of unlisted public companies lost 0.17 percent and 0.44 percent. In the morning Vietnamese stocks followed regional movements and opened almost 10 points lower at 987.55. However, unlike the Chinese Shanghai Composite and Japanese Nikkei 225, which closed 1.41 and 2.11 percent down, the Vietnamese market clawed back some of its losses in the afternoon as investors began buying manufacturing stocks. Stocks of industrial parks saw unusually strong gains, with Sonadezi Corporation rising by 13 percent, Sai Gon VRG Investment Corporation by 8.9 percent and some others by over 8 percent.
