Pop music and ‘Grease’ star Olivia Newton-John dead at age 73
Singer Olivia Newton-John, who soared to the top of the world's pop music charts in the 1970s and 1980s with such tunes as "I Honestly Love You" and "Physical" and starred in the hit movie musical "Grease," died on Monday at age 73 at her home in Southern California. The death of the British-born, Australian-raised performer was announced on her Instagram account, saying she "passed away peacefully" at her ranch home "surrounded by family and friends." Newton-John, a four-time Grammy winner, had disclosed in 2017 that a recurrence of breast cancer had metastasized and spread to her lower back, forcing her to cancel performances. Twenty-five years earlier Newton-John had undergone a partial mastectomy, leading her to become an advocate for breast cancer research and other health issues and to establish a cancer treatment-research facility in Australia. The entertainer began performing as a child and became a global superstar after moving to the United States. Traditional taxis make a comeback
Traditional taxis need to introduce new innovations to regain their popularity among locals. (Photo courtesy of nld.com.vn) HCM City (VNS/VNA) - In recent years, when app-based ride-hailing services appeared and grew stronger in Vietnam, many people gradually turned away from traditional taxis. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent increase in the price of gasoline, many people have re-opted for traditional taxis because it is increasingly difficult to book ride-share cars , and the fares have risen sharply. It took less than 100,000 VND for a traditional taxi to travel from Tan Binh district to District 1 during rush hour while that of ride-hailing cars was 200,000 VND, Binh, a resident of Tan Binh district, told Nguoi Lao Dong (Labourer) newspaper. It is worth mentioning that Binh booked his trip via multiple ride-hailing apps and was still not able to call for any taxis. Le Minh Hieu, who is living in Binh Thanh district, shared a similar concern and has … [Read more...] about Traditional taxis make a comeback
American movies inspire Vietnamese family to take memorable van life road trips
Lam Son, a Hanoian, first learned about the nomadic lifestyle after watching American movies depicting mobile homes parked in the middle of vast valleys. This was the source of inspiration for the Vietnamese YouTuber to set out on his first road trip in a mobile home with his family a couple of years ago. Son converted his old Mercedes Sprinter into a mobile home fully equipped with essential items for long-haul road trips. “This was originally a van. When traveling, my family members sit in the driver’s cabin full of safety equipment. We only use the renovated part on the back of the vehicle at rest stops or campgrounds,” the 35-year-old said. Since he renovated his first mobile home, the Son family has traveled to many parts of Vietnam on the vehicle, bringing exhilarating experiences to their two children. He expects the road trips will make their childhood more colorful and help them unplug from screens to fully experience van life. Lam Son's children view … [Read more...] about American movies inspire Vietnamese family to take memorable van life road trips

Copyright infringement runs rampant online
Some copyright-infringed websites (Photo: baodautu.vn) Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - Copyright infringement has been running rampant in Vietnam , causing great damage to the video industry, according to insiders. Le Quang Tu Do, Deputy Director of the Broadcasting and Electronic Information Authority, admitted that many websites have been violating copyright regulations in the country by uploading videos without permission. The website creators are so cunning that they set up their servers overseas to hide traces. Every time an illegal website gets banned, a new one immediately emerges and appears unrelated to the banned one. By late June, authorities have detected and banned over 500 copyright-infringing websites, but this amount is outpaced by the sites that replace them. Pham Hoang Hai, Director of the Vietnam Digital Content Copyright Centre, revealed that illegal websites fall foul of copyright regulations by live-streaming unauthorised videos, or edit videos and … [Read more...] about Copyright infringement runs rampant online
