Thailand, Vietnam urged to be more proactive in face of new int’l challenges
The cooperation in international issues has made the two countries leading trade partners in ASEAN and those sharing common goals in the Greater Mekong Subregion. Vietnam calls for ASEAN cooperation to spur tourism development

Speaking at a press conference on the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2023 in Indonesia on February 5, the official said apart from traditional markets that have experienced difficulties, ASEAN should seek new ones and adjust some policies relating to aviation connection and visas. He also suggested the bloc continue implementing tourism development strategies for 2016-2025 and adjust and update them after each meeting of ASEAN tourism ministers. Viet described culture as the core value of the regional tourism and a unique factor helping the countries attract tourists. Tailoring is one of the oldest professions in Hanoi. What brought you to the profession? I am a second-generation descendant of a family with more than 70 years of working in this area. My father also opened a tailor shop specialising in serving foreigners in the 1950s, when the tailoring profession in Hanoi was still very primitive and the designs and fabrics were monotonous. Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam Shawn Steil visits Van Hung Tailor Hanoi in the 1980s did not have many tailors. Tailoring as a profession was an ideal choice for young people who do not go to college. I studied sewing technology at school, now the Hanoi Vocational School of Cookery, Tourism, and Fashion. This is also the only training institution in tailoring supported by Germany, with only around 100 graduates per year. Viet Nam leads Southeast Asia in wooden furniture exports to Australia
Producing wooden furniture for export at Trieu Phu Loc Furniture Co., Ltd, Tan Uyen Town, Binh Duong Province. — VNA/VNS Photo Wooden furniture exports from Southeast Asian markets to Australia grew sharply in the past year, with Viet Nam leading the way on US$205.6 million, up 26.4 per cent year-on-year. Following Viet Nam is Malaysia with $101.9 million and Indonesia with $61.7 million. The proportion of wooden furniture imports from these three markets accounted for 22.9 per cent of the total value of wooden furniture imports into Australia. The Import-Export Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade, quoted statistics from the General Department of Customs saying that the export value of wooden office furniture reached $28.4 million in December, a year-on-year decline of 28.6 per cent.
