Tax authorities clamping down on foreign evaders (illustration photo) Hanoi Tax Department and its peer in Ho Chi Minh City revealed last week that thousands of foreign-invested enterprises (FIEs) are failing to keep up with regulatory demands. The published list of groups is part of Vietnamese authorities stepping up investigations into the tax affairs of such enterprises, which account for a growing share of suspected underpayment by large businesses. Vietnam, Russia reinforce strategic partnership
The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister visited Vietnam on June 13-14 at the invitation of the Foreign Ministry of Vietnam to attend the ninth Vietnam-Russia Strategic Dialogue on Diplomacy-Defense-Security and Political Consultation at the deputy-foreign-ministerial level, which aimed to roll out the cooperation plan between the two foreign ministries for the 2017-2018 period. ACV suffers bitter losses from Viethaus project
The Viethaus project was mired down in difficulties from the start The Government Office has collected comments from the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finance, and Planning and Investment on how to deal with the Viethaus project based in Berlin (Germany) of Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV). Earlier, the Ministry of Transport (MoT), which is ACV’s management authority, in a report to Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, has floated the idea of terminating the project, based on ACV proposal. Accordingly, in case the German government does not offer long-term space leasing at a favourable rate and long-term visa to its staff, ACV will ask its member unit Southern Airports Services JSC (Sasco) to return the space in the third quarter of this year when the space leasing contract expires and stop the investment project according to Vietnamese and German laws. Accordingly, the People’s Committees of coastal provinces and cities must accelerate the recovery of Movimar satellite geo-positioning devices installed in fishing vessels with lengths of below 24 metres for installation in those of 24 metres and above. At the same time, they should push the prompt upgrade of GPS-integrated VX-1700 satellite communication equipment on both vessels and coastal stations, and impose strict punishment on those ships which fail to operate the monitoring equipment around the clock as required.
