In the past, Dong Ho paintings were used as decorations at homes in the Red River Delta during the lunar New Year festival (Tet). Hanging a Dong Ho painting in the house at the beginning of a new year was believed to bring happiness and prosperity for the family. The folk paintings have become part of Vietnamese life through generations and are now used in the modern arts, including painting, sculpture, fashion, and pottery. Dong Ho painting is special because it is printed by hand entirely from woodblocks. Each painting has one woodblock for the outline and several others for printing colors. The number of the woodcuts corresponds to the number of colors a painting has. The colors of paint are processed from natural materials Vietnam. The woodblocks are engraved by hand and can be kept for many years. Dong Ho paintings are printed on "do" paper made from "do" tree bark and covered with a layer of scallop shell powder mixed with sticky rice paste. New expressways in Mekong Delta expected to create socio-economic breakthroughs
A number of expressways have been built or are under construction in the Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta, enabling the region to keep up with the rapid socio-economic development momentum of the rest of the country. The Mỹ Thuận 2 Bridge on the North-South Expressway is expected to be completed in 2023 to facilitate traffic in the Mekong Delta. In April last year the Trung Lương-Mỹ Thuận Expressway opened to traffic after 13 years of construction and frequent delays. Part of the incomplete 196km HCM City-Cần Thơ Expressway and passing through Tiền Giang Province, the six-lane road is 51km long and cost VNĐ12.7 trillion (US$539 million) to build. It plays an important role in enabling nearly 20 million people to travel to and trade with HCM City and other south-eastern localities, and reducing the congestion on National Highway 1A. Mekong Delta rice farming to become a leading sector in agricultural production (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) - Farmers in the Mekong Delta contribute over 50% of the country's rice production and 90% of rice exports. The project is expected to shift rice farming to become a leading sector in agricultural production with a multi-valued approach. This is also a programme to implement Resolution No. 13-NQ/TW dated April 2, 2022 of the Politburo on the direction of socio-economic development and assurance of national defence and security in the Mekong Delta to 2030, with a vision to 2045. This is where author Nam Cao got inspiration for his well-known work, Chi Pheo (1941), a short story which best highlights Nam Cao's theme of the destitute life of farmers in rural areas. The village is about 80 kilometers from Hanoi and it takes about one hour and 45 minutes to drive there. Vu Dai Village is frequently visited during Tet holidays because of its well-known braised fish dishes and nostalgic settings. Early in January, six Vietnamese from Hanoi went on a photo tour to the rustic village to capture the flavor of "old Tet ." One of the vistors, Tran Tien Dung, expressed his happiness at being a part of the tour of reimagined traditional Tet images. 30 shades of herbs: the more, the better
Visitors can find more than a dozen vendors selling banh xeo , a kind of Vietnamese crepe, served with jungle herbs on the way to the summit of the 700-meter-high Cam mountain in An Giang Province. Most of them are centered around Phat Lon Pagoda. Instead of signs, each vendor arranges over a dozen baskets of fresh, wild herbs in front of their restaurant stalls. At the busy tables of restaurants atop the mountain, servers place a plate of jungle herbs in front of you as soon as you sit down. Diners can get up to grab anything they want from the herb counter if there's not enough at the table. According to Hoang, one of the restaurant's owners, banh xeo is served with roughly 30 different kinds of herbs that were harvested in the forests that coat the mountain. Each kind has a distinctive flavor, and some are even thought of as natural medicines. Bushes of jungle herbs surrounding banh xeo stalls is an iconic scene at Cam mountain.
