Vietnamese gymnast Tran Ngoc Thuy Vi won a gold medal in the women’s individual category. Thuy Vi’s gold came after the she successfully secured 21.2 points to finish first in the women’s individual category during the gymnastics-aerobic event. The talented gymnast won the gold after finishing above the representatives from Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia, who finished on 20.325, 18.799, and 18.550 points, respectively. Elsewhere, athlete Nguyen Van Lai won a silver medal after a strong performance in the men’s 5,000 metre event. Van Lai’s second place finish represented the nation’s first medal on December 9. SEA Games: Philippines tours hotcakes as Vietnam in football final
The number of people buying tours to Manila has experienced a rapid surge since Saturday night, soon after Vietnam advanced to its first SEA Games final in 10 years. The final match of the SEA Games men’s football will be played Tuesday. Tours priced from VND9.5 million ($409) to VND15 million ($646) are almost sold out, local operators said. A representative of local tour operator Vietravel said over 500 slots departing from Da Nang City, Hanoi and HCMC to Manila were sold out. "We are working with airlines to open additional flights to cater to the growing travel demand, the representative said. Leading travel company Saigontourist has sold 60 percent of its tours and continued to receive bookings until Tuesday morning. Travel agency Hanoi Redtours has chartered an aircraft to take football fans from Hanoi to Manila, and 90 percent of the seats were booked as of Saturday night. Vietnam defender hospitalized over exhaustion after brave SEA Games women’s football showdown with Thailand
A defender of the Vietnamese national women’s football team has been admitted to a hospital in Manila over exhaustion after a brave finale against Thailand at the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games on Sunday. The Vietnamese women beat their Thai rivals 1-0 in extra time to win the sixth gold medal since 2001. But they had fought with blood, sweat and tears against the Thais with a stronger physique in 120 minutes. Many of the Vietnamese players suffered injury or a cramp during and after the gold-medal match. Defender Chuong Thi Kieu sustained a large scratch on the back of her thigh but she still stood up and played with bandages wrapped around her left knee and thigh.
