The leader lauded Party Committees and administrations at all levels for their serious implementation of directives issued by the Secretariat and the Prime Minister regarding the organisation of Tet, the biggest and longest festival in Vietnam. (Photo: danviet.vn) HCM City (VNS/VNA) - Around 18,000 Vietnamese tourists chose outbound tours through travel agencies in Ho Chi Minh City during the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday this year, spending a total of 430 billion VND (18.3 million USD), according to a report from the city's Department of Tourism. The number of tourists choosing outbound tours accounted for 55-65% of the total domestic and foreign tours. This is an unexpected growth, according to tourism businesses. Nguyen Nguyet Van Khanh, director of Vietravel 's marketing department, said that the company recorded a total of more than 47,000 tourists registered for Tet tourism, much higher than last year. "We have to be determined to improve the traffic infrastructure in the region within this government term [2021-2026], especially the expressway system," the prime minister said when meeting with authorities in the Mekong Delta. Between now and 2026, the region should build an additional 463 kilometers of expressways, he said. As per a master plan for traffic infrastructure development, the region is set to have six expressways measuring 1,166 kilometers long in total. They are to be funded by either state funds or via the public-private partnership format. Until now, only four expressways have been completed, running a combined total of 171 kilometers in length. The delta now has eight expressway projects that are either under construction or still waiting for investment procedures to be completed. The eight projects will cost a total VND94.4 trillion (US$4 billion). Many families on Tan Ky Tan Quy Street are busy grilling blotched snakehead fish for the God of Wealth Day. This year, the God of Wealth Day (the 10th of the Lunar New Year) falls on January 31. On Monday evening, Tan Ky Tan Quy Street in Tan Phu District was full of smoke from grilling blotched snakehead fish. Nguyen Trung, owner of a blotched snakehead fish shop, on the street said that his facility grilled around five tonnes of snakehead to meet demand. Each snake fish weighs 1-2 kilos. After being cleaned, sugarcane sticks will be skewered into the fish before being baked. The sugarcane helps the fish to become more tasty. Trung employed 30 people, including many relatives, to serve the fish processing against just 3-4 members of his family on ordinary days. Charcoal is used for grilling the fish.
