Gov’t ensures dual targets of pandemic prevention, economic development

Major supply systems join hands in supporting people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – The COVID-19 prevention and control work needs to ensure the twin targets of pandemic prevention and economic recovery and development so as not to affect production and business activities, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai said at the Government’s regular press conference on March 2. Answering a reporter’s query on stepping up the consumption of agricultural products of pandemic-hit localities, Hai said that over the past time, the Government has instructed ministries, sectors and localities to carry out measures to ensure the implementation of the twin targets. When the pandemic showed signs of worsening in Hai Duong and Quang Ninh provinces, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc issued Directive No.05 on January 28 on urgent COVID-19 prevention and control measures, in which the Government leader assigned Chairpersons of provincial and municipal People’s Committees to decide social distancing measures to be used based on the level of risk of each area. The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has put forward solutions to address those difficulties, such as working directly with major domestic supply systems and major firms in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to help with the sale of farm produce. It has also worked with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and localities to seek measures to ease consumers’ concerns about agricultural products from disease-affected areas. At the proposal of the MoIT, the PM assigned tasks to each ministry and locality to quickly address difficulties in goods circulation and transportation, Hai said, adding that the …

Border guards on patrol in Dong Thap (Photo: VNA) HCM City (VNS/VNA) - Mekong Delta provinces are tightening preventive measures against the COVID-19 pandemic , especially along land borders and coastal entry points, after two new cases were reported in the region. On February 28, a 37-year-old man in Hau Giang province who worked aboard a barge bringing cargo from Cambodia’s Phnom Penh tested positive and was quarantined immediately. He had arrived along with another man at the Thuong Phuoc International Sea Port in Dong Thap’s Hong Ngu district on February 26. Authorities have identified three people who came into close contact with the patient. Earlier, on February 23, the province’s COVID-19 task force quarantined a Vietnamese woman who had entered illegally from Cambodia with the disease. Authorities traced 11 people who had been in contact with her. Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Pham Thien Nghia has instructed relevant agencies to tighten control over border and coastal entry points. They should exchange information with their counterparts in neighbouring countries to make plans to preclude the spread of the disease, he said. Border guards should set up a hotline for locals to report people coming from COVID-hit areas, he added. Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Doan Tan Buu said everyone entering from Cambodia have to be quarantined and tested. The People’s Committee has approved the suspension of festivals and other events and closure of amusement places in Hong Ngu and Tan Hong districts and Hong Ngu city. Educational establishments will be closed from March 1 to 6. At the border in the provinces of Long An, An Giang and Kien Giang, soldiers are on duty on 24 hours a day at temporary checkpoints. 90 years of Vietnam Fatherland Front: National unity promoted

National unity promoted During its 90-year history, the Vietnam Fatherland Front has always exerted efforts to perform its role as the host of campaigns and activities to mobilise resources in all social strata to contribute to the country’s socio-economic growth and ensure national defence and security. Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Ngo Sach Thuc says the Front has promoted patriotism, solidarity and creativity among people, which could be seen through effective implementation of its mobilisations on realising the country’s development goals and improving its people’s livelihood. He says: “The Front has become a bridge to converge people and promote national unity. It could be seen through warm responses of people to mobilisation campaigns targeting the poor, policy beneficiaries, the disadvantaged and fellow residents affected by floods, etc.” In the mobilisation campaign of ‘All people unite to build new-style rural areas and civilised urban areas’ in 2015, the Fatherland Front at all levels has coordinated with other agencies to call on people to donate land and strength to develop infrastructure, develop the economy, sustainably reduce poverty, protect the environment, adhere to the law, preserve and promote traditional cultural values towards building happy and civilised communities. Thuc says, “the mobilisation has managed to call on the whole political system and a majority of people to participate and achieved comprehensive results. 60% of communes nationwide have been recognised as new-style rural areas as of 2020”. Every year, the Fatherland Front cooperates with relevant ministries, agencies and organisations to implement the programme ‘Vietnamese people prioritise Vietnamese goods’.
