HIROSHIMA -- U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Sunday that it was time to reform both the Security Council and Bretton Woods to align with the "realities of today's world". Speaking at a press conference in Hiroshima, Japan, where the Group of Seven summit meeting had been held, Guterres said both institutions reflected the power relations of 1945 and needed to be updated. "The global financial architecture became outdated, dysfunctional and unfair," he said. "In the face of the economic shocks from the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian [attack on] Ukraine, it has failed to fulfil its core function as a global safety net." Guterres also spoke of how he felt that at the G7 summit there was a growing consciousness among developing countries that not enough was being done to reform outdated institutions or "remove the frustrations" of the Global South. India's economy will grow over 6 percent this year and next, the International Monetary Fund said in its World … [Read more...] about UN chief says it’s time to reform Security Council, Bretton Woods

Organic rice being grown in sand worm fields
Farmers in Tu Ky district , Hai Duong province said sand worms are very sensitive to chemicals and can only live in clean soil and water. Therefore, farmers grow rice without the use of any chemicals. The rice and worms live in a symbiotic environment, with the rice providing a suitable environment for the worms to grow. Since their main source of income comes from sand worms, local farmers must create the cleanest environment possible to ensure their stable growth and development. If a field is not clean and pesticides are used, the worms will die and farmers will face losing 300 million to 1 billion VND each year. To protect and promote the specialty Bai Rui rice, the local government has mapped out a plan to develop high-tech agricultural production and organic agricultural products such as sand worms and rice. Turning HCMC’s Can Gio into resort town is ambitious
"Very ambitious project given current financial and population constraints. Like the metro, it will take 3-4 times longer so look to 2150 to complete." nnnosg "They should shelve this idea right now. Awful proposal. No international tourists will be attracted to this. Not to mention the dramatic ecological damage this sort of development would cause. The 100% focus should instead be cleaning up the existing beach resort destinations like Phu Quoc, which is a total mess with trash in the water." Pascal Visage "Not only is this going to displace generational families who have lived and worked there for centuries but it's going to destroy the mangroves and homes of countless species. We all know that the bulldozing will be done soon and then not a single brick will be laid for decades. Can we please, please finish the projects along the coast in Binh Thuan, Ba Ria-Vung Tau etc as well as inside HCMC like Thu Thiem before anything is done here? It's just not needed and blow anyone … [Read more...] about Turning HCMC’s Can Gio into resort town is ambitious
