Illustrative image (Source: internet) Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce has reported that the country’s exports of fruits and vegetable to China surged 31 percent in the January-May period to 1.2 billion USD. Export revenue of fruit rose 123 percent to 838.61 million USD. Of the figure, earnings from durian accounted for 48.5 percent, followed by longan, mangosteen and coconut. However, export revenue of vegetable in the period was only 361 million USD, a drop of 33 percent year on year. Cassava was the major currency earner of the country which made up 96 percent of the total exports of farm produce to China, followed by beans and dried vegetable. For the holiday, the company is focusing on premium cooking oil products, one of many products that Vietnamese give as presents during the most important festival of the year when gifts are exchanged with relatives and friends. Shrimp exports slide further in 2019, better outlook expected next year

But it is expected to make its way back next year with the EU-Vietnam trade deal coming into force. The country exported about 3.1 billion USD worth of shrimp products in the firsth 11 months of this year, a year-on-year decrease of 8.2 percent, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) . The VASEP said the shrimp exports are likely to total just 3.4 billion USD this year, down 4.4 percent from a year earlier and much lower than the yearly goal of 4 – 4.2 billion USD. Seafood exports likely to fall short of 10-billion USD target (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese seafood companies need to work harder to realise the export target of 10 billion USD set by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) when oversea shipments in during January-July were estimated at only 4.66 billion USD. The yearly growth rate of seafood export in the period this year, at 6.4 percent, was much lower than the same time last year, with 19.3 percent. According to Truong Dinh Hoe, General Secretary of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), instability in the world market and oversupply of shrimp worldwide are the main causes of the dwindling growth. “Exports of seafood products are likely to fetch 9 billion USD, but 10 billion USD is a far cry. Source: VNA) HCM City (VNA) – There is room for the development of Vietnam’s shrimp sector thanks to favourable farming conditions and increasing global demand, heard a conference held in Ho Chi Minh City on August 23. At the event entitled “Global shrimp demand and Vietnam’s supply capacity to 2025”, experts stressed the industry still faces challenges. Ho Quang Luc, former Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), noted that Vietnam has a large area of 700,000 hectares for shrimp farming. “Due to favourable weather, Vietnamese farmers can raise shrimp all year round,” he said, adding that local farmers’ skills exceed the global average.
