Can Tho (VNS/VNA) - Can Tho, the most populated city in the Mekong Delta region, has achieved outstanding results in developing a project to build a smart city after nearly two years of implementation. Vo Thi Hong Anh, Vice Chairwoman of the Can Tho City People’s Committee, said the project aims to make the city to become the first smart city in the southwestern region by 2025. A smart city enhances civic engagement in urban management, with the aim of improving competitiveness and socio-economic development, she said. To achieve the goal, Can Tho will use modern information technology and improve State management and the quality of life, she said. Can Tho’s agencies have many plans to achieve the goal. Rice cultivation must ensure domestic supply in spite of difficulties
Hanoi (VNA) - In spite of challenges caused by saline intrusion and COVID-19, rice cultivation in the Mekong Delta must ensure domestic supply and take opportunities for export, said Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Quoc Doanh. At a recent online conference to review the region’s rice growing in the winter-spring crop, Doanh highlighted the determination of the agricultural sector not to suffer from losses in the coming summer-autumn and autumn-winter crops. During the 2019-2020 winter-spring rice season, the Mekong Delta harvested 11.3 million tonnes of rice in conditions of severe drought and saline intrusion. The positive outcome was achieved thanks to weather predictions by the agricultural ministry, which led to the order of early cultivation in October and November.
