Military History Museum receives liberation flag from American War Veteran
PANO - General Pham Van Tra, former Defence Minister, on September 28 th received a liberation flag from American war veteran, Patrick McMakin, who saw service during the Vietnam War. The flag, kept by the veteran for over 40 years with traces of bullets and blood of Vietnamese revolutionaries, was presented to Vietnam Military History Museum. Mr. McMakin, a gunner of Infantry Unit 47, Battalion 2, Brigade 3, Infantry Division 9 during the Vietnam War, took the flag in 1969 from a body of a martyr, when his unit raided a military barracks of the Liberation Army. Rapid Response Collecting is a new strand to the V&A's collecting activity. Objects are collected in response to major moments in history that touch the world of design and manufacturing. The display, which will constantly change, shows how design reflects and defines how we live together today.
