The approval of Vietnam’s circular economy development plan, announced in June, aims to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 15 per cent of GDP by 2030 (as compared to 2014). The commitment at COP26 by Vietnam to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 is considered the main call for investment into green technologies and friendly-environmental projects, as well as approval of plans such as the aforementioned circular economy one. US, Taiwan to start formal trade talks under new initiative
Washington and Taipei unveiled the U.S.-Taiwan Initiative on 21st-Century Trade in June, just days after the Biden administration excluded the Chinese-claimed island from its Asia-focused economic plan designed to counter China's growing influence. The office of the U.S. Trade Representative said the two sides had "reached consensus on the negotiating mandate" and it was expected that the first round of talks will take place early this autumn. Overseas Vietnamese strengthen Danang’s investment climate
On August 12, the Danang People's Committee in collaboration with State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs (SCOV) held a seminar in Ho Chi Minh City to introduce Danang’s investment climate. The event attracted overseas Vietnamese to participate online from 19 countries and territories including the United States, Canada, Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan, Australia, Germany, Russia, Poland, Slovakia, England, France, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, Hungary, Thailand, and Mongolia. Vietnam’s second tank crew destroys four targets
At 10:00 local time (14:10 Vietnam time), the Vietnamese second tank crew entered the competition with their rivals from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Venezuela at Alabino training ground on the outskirts of Moscow, Russia. The crew included head of the crew Major Vu Ba Trong, gunner non-commissioned First Lieutenant Le Quang Hiep, and driver non-commissioned First Lieutenant Dao Ba Tu. After the conclusion of the competition, the referee board met and announced the official results of participating contingents. In particular, the second tank crew of the Vietnam People’s Army shot down four targets and reached the finish line after 32 minutes 21 seconds. The second tank crews of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Venezuela completed the race after 22 minutes 53 seconds, 26 minutes 35 seconds, and 40 minutes 15 seconds, respectively. Vietnam attends 10th Moscow Conference on Int’l Security
Vietnamese Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang delivered a pre-recorded speech at the second session of the conference. The MCIS-10 draws the participation of 700 delegates from 70 countries and six international organizations. During the event, there will be plenary sessions with topics on global security in a multipolar world, and regional issues amid global security: Asia-Pacific, Africa, Middle East, and Latin America. The Vietnamese delegation, led by General Ngo Xuan Lich, member of the Politburo, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense, attended the conference. The conference focused on global and regional security issues, counter-terrorism, security in Europe and the Middle East, the situation in the Asia Pacific region, and the role of multilateral cooperation mechanisms in dealing with challenges. Thailand eyes to own regional land transport centre
Dry port in Udon Thani (Source: Bangkokpost) Bangkok (VNA) - The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) has said that it is planning to develop a dry port in Udon Thani, with the aim of developing the northeast province into a centre for regional land transport, linked with the Chinese-Lao high-speed train system. According to the IEAT’s leader Veeris Ammarapala, the new inland transport facility will support trade among provinces in the northeast and the Thai economy. This port will also improve the efficiency of Thai logistics and land transport via roads and railways, he said. PVCFC ensures fertiliser supply despite 14-day maintenance
Hanoi (VNA) – The PetroVietnam Camau Fertilizer JSC (PVCFC) will halt the operation of its fertiliser factory for maintenance from August 18 to September 4, the firm has announced. Nguyen Duy Hai, Director of the factory, said that the firm has mobilised more than 1,000 staff from contractors and experts serving the maintenance. This is a regular work with the highest number of items ever. However, it has prepared plans to ensure the supply of fertilisers to farmers ahead of the upcoming Winter-Spring crop . Data from the Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) under the Ministry of Planning and Investment showed that by the end of June 2022, the capital of newly registered projects, increases in the capital of ongoing projects and capital contribution and stock purchases by foreign investors totaled over US$14.03 billion, equivalent to 91.1 percent over the same period in 2021. Foreign direct investment (FDI) projects were estimated to have disbursed US$10.06 billion, an increase of 8.9 percent compared to the same period in 2021.
