VietNamNet Bridge - The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) has been accused of going too slowly in implementing plans to reform the training of teachers at junior pedagogical colleges (3-year training). The warnings about the training quality and questions about the existence of the schools in modern times were issued for the first time some years ago. However, Viet Cuong group has said MOET still has not taken bold steps and applied measures to reform the training of teachers for general schools. The group of authors believes that in the current conditions, when Vietnam integrates more deeply into the world, it will be a blunder to maintain the system of junior pedagogical colleges which produce teachers for schools. A delegation of 12 Loyola College’s professors on July 21 called at Lien Huong Ao dai fashion shop in Ho Chi Minh City to find out more about the Vietnamese traditional costume. The visit is part of the college’s working visit to Vietnam to discuss cooperation possibilities in education and health. At Lien Huong shop (at 111 Pasteur street, precinct 3), they were introduced to the meaning and unique features of Ao dai. They were also entertained with a “mini” show performed by Ho Chi Minh City’s professional models on different styles and cloths used in the production of Vietnam’s Ao dai. Professor Patrick Boyle, vice-rector, was very interested in the show. He said having travelled to many countries over the world, especially Asian ones, he had rarely seen as beautiful dresses as the Ao dai. 72 A senior Vietnamese has proven it is never too late to learn by obtaining his eighth university degree in business administration at the age of 68 from the Ho Chi Minh City Open University.Doan Minh Tuan was on the list of the university’s graduates on December 9.The weekend graduation ceremony was held for 918 students graduating from online undergraduate programs run by the Ho Chi Minh City Open University.However, due to health issues, the 68-year-old was unable to attend the ceremony to receive his degree with his peers.
