Viet Nam News NEW DELHI — Asian countries are spending more on their human capital, according to World Bank Human Capital Index. The Human Capital Index (HCI) measures the amount of human capital that a child born today can expect to attain by age of 18, given the risks to poor health and poor education that prevail in the country where the child lives. The HCI index values are contended to convey the productivity of the next generation and highlights how ready are Asian youth to face a future of immense opportunities. Singapore takes the top spot in human capital rankings globally. It has one of the most robust healthcare system, good education exams results and high life expectancy figures. It ranked first out of 157 economies suggesting that Singapore’s attempt to invest in its human capital will allow children to fulfill 88 per cent of their potential when they grow up. The label on the pink and white box of face cream sold in a Bangkok hypermarket proudly declares that it is based on a "snail secretion filtrate moisture system." The Snail White branding - plus some positive internet reviews - is enough to have Chinese tourists recently lining up to buy the slime-infused product. Alice Chen, 21, a Chinese college student, says she saw the face cream reviewed online and wanted to try it out because she couldn’t get it back home. Project promotes youth wellness (13-03-2006) After eight months, the Ho Chi Minh Youth Union programme, Improving Student Living Skills has draw strong response from the nation's youth, underscoring youth interest in personal wellness and community involvement. A barometer of youth interest is the website www.songdep.com.vn, posted in connection with the programme at its inception,which has been visited by over 600,000 young people. The programme has attracted the interest of thousands of students from 200 urban education facilities in Viet Nam's major centres and rural students alike to work together in community and charity activities.
