In the first nine months of 2019, the district welcomed 2.5 million tourists, a year-on-year rise of 12 percent, including 626,600 foreigners. The total revenue from tourism services in January-September exceeded 1.4 trillion VND (60.3 million USD), up 15 percent against the same period last year. The People’s Committee of Cat Hai district, where Cat Ba island is located, is working with Hai Phong city to implement a project on building Cat Ba island into an international tourist centre through 2025. At the 7th International Food Safety Forum (Photo: VNA) HCM City (VNA) – Vietnamese consumers are becoming more concerned about the food they eat and have pressing needs for safe food, heard a forum in Ho Chi Minh City. At the 7th International Food Safety Forum held by the World Bank Group’s International Finance Corporation on November 28-29, World Bank Country Director for Vietnam Osmane Dione said Vietnam needs to control the domestic food market more strictly. Unsafe food cost Vietnam around 700 million USD a year and left effects on consumers’ health and lives, though the country earned 18 billion USD from exporting farm produce in 2017, according to the official. He suggested the Vietnamese Government adopt policies to encourage the sustainable production and trade of safe food in the coming time. While we will always confess that people do eat dogs and cats in Vietnam, a lot of people may be very ashamed to admit this reality. Others, however, will answer in a matter-of-fact way as if it were their daily food and ask back, “Have you tried it yet?” It is true that in some Asian countries people kill cats and dogs for meat, and obviously Vietnam is one of those. Logistics ship to operate in Quảng Ngãi A modern maritime logistics ship was put into operation at Sa Kỳ Seaport in the central province of Quảng Ngãi’s Bình Sơn District on Wednesday. The Lý Sơn 168 is nearly 46 metres in length and 7.7 metres in width. It has total investment capital of nearly VNĐ32 billion (US$1.4 million). Of this, around VNĐ26 billion ($1.1 million) was borrowed from the Việt Nam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development following the Government’s preferential policies for fishery development. The ship’s design includes fish tanks, a freezer storage system, a seawater ice-making machine and a processing workshop. The ship can carry from 300-400 tonnes of seafood and has a maximum speed of 12 nautical miles per hour. A ceremony to welcome the first flight from Yunnan arriving in Hai Phong's Cat Bi airport (Photo: VNA) Hai Phong (VNA) – Chinese-based Ruili Airlines on September 30 opened a route between Vietnam’s northern port city of Hai Phong and Kunming city in China’s Yunnan province. The route, the first direct one connecting Hai Phong and Yunnan, will reduce travel time from the previous 15 hours by road to 1 hour by air, thereby contributing to promoting Vietnam – China economic, cultural and tourism exchanges. Ruili Airlines, with a fleet of 19 Boeing planes, is now operating 61 domestic and 10 international routes. On a daily basis, it runs 108 flights to 39 cities, including those in Vietnam.
