The ‘Taste of Southern Food’ festival opened at Dam Sen Cultural Park in District 11, Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday to honor the culinary culture of Vietnam's southern region and introduce local specialties to domestic and international tourists. The annual festival, co-organized by Phu Tho Tourist Service JSC and Saigontourist Group, is set to wrap up on Sunday. Foreigners in Vietnam are joining the discussion via Facebook comments on just how good Vietnamese food is, and where it ranks on the world stage, following a slew of tourism articles recently published by Tuoi Tre News . In his piece titled “ A foreigner’s thoughts on how much it costs to be a tourist in Vietnam ,” Liam Langan pointed out there’s really no one-size-fits-all approach to spending money at a tourist in Vietnam, and that where you choose to eat makes a massive difference in the size of your bill. Langan specifically compared a $300 fine dining experience to a street dish that fed two for just $5. HCM City to host international food expo next month

The second HCMC FOODEX 2023, taking place from June 28 to 30, will feature nearly 300 booths and is expected to attract more than 18,000 visitors. Model Hoang Duc Trung will represent the nation by participating in the Mister Altitude World (MAW) 2023 pageant, with the grand final of the competition set to take place on May 27 in Thailand. Vietnamese man gets poisoned after eating cicada larvae shells
A 34-year-old Vietnamese man has been hospitalized for food poisoning treatment after he ate more than 10 cicada larva shells, misunderstanding that they were caterpillar fungi. The patient, a native of south-central Binh Thuan Province, was admitted to Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, said Nguyen Thi Thuy Ngan, deputy head of the hospital’s tropical disease department, on Wednesday. When he was working in his garden on Sunday, the man discovered mushroom-shaped cicada larva shells and thought that they were caterpillar fungi. He took around 12-14 shells home for a late-night meal. The man immediately developed the symptoms of fatigue, headache, stomach pain, vomiting, and muscle weakness. He was rushed to a local hospital in Binh Thuan before being transferred to Cho Ray Hospital for further treatment. Only 20% of Vietnamese farm produce eligible for export
