Vietnam has dominated the past three Games with 17 golds in 2017, 16 in 2019 and 22 at the last Games held a year later than scheduled in 2022 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. With just six weeks to go before the start of the Games, the team is training hard to keep its top spot. “We have set a target for each group," said Nguyen Manh Hung, general secretary of the Vietnam Athletics Federation . "We hope to manage to win at least 14 golds. We can predict the maximum number of golds that we can earn from the Games, but that is our tactic so I cannot reveal that information to anyone." (Photo:nationthailand.com) Bangkok – Thailand's official SEA Games jersey maker Grand Sport has released the collection of kits that Thai athletes would wear when competing at the upcoming 32nd SEA Games 2023 in Cambodia. The company’s managing director, Thiti Pluckchaoom, said that the jerseys for the athletes were designed with a contemporary style, under the concept of "Beyond The Spirit, Beyond Sportswear". Thai athletes show spirit throughout their entire careers, not only when competing. To succeed, they must put in a hard effort and make sacrifices, he said. Thiti said the collar shirts in this set were made using recycled plastic bottles to mitigate waste and raise awareness about global warming. Cambodian Ambassador to Vietnam Chea Kimtha said the torch relay shows a well-developed Cambodia – Vietnam relationship as well as the friendship and solidarity that the two countries have built and cultivated. She thanked the Government of Vietnam, the Vietnam Olympic Committee, and relevant units for supporting, coordinating, and creating favorable conditions for the relay in Vietnam to proceed smoothly. Vietnamese runner Nguyen Thi Huyen, who is multi-time SEA Games winner, and 200 Vietnamese athletes carried the torch around the Hoan Kiem Lake area. Theu started from the Cambodian Embassy and marched through different streets in Hanoi before returning to the embassy. US basketball development program returns to Vietnam
The program, which includes stops in Hanoi and HCM City, is expected to reach more than 8,000 boys and girls in more than 200 schools there. It began on March 11 with an open clinic for boys and girls and a coaches’ clinic at Ho Xuan Huong Stadium in HCM City, and will run through June. There will be a series of school clinics followed by the first selection camp in Hanoi on March 31 and a second in HCM City on April 14 from which the top 32 boys and girls each will be selected for the Jr. NBA National Training Camp in the latter city from June 22 to 24. The camp will again be attended by a current player or NBA legend. It will culminate with eight boys and eight girls being named the 2018 Jr. NBA Vietnam All-Stars. The 26-hectare park, the largest in Nghe An Province, opened to visitors in 2005 in the city centre. With a vast area of trees and dozens kinds of wild animals, the park was expected to be a recreation place for local people and help regulate the temperatures of the city. However, the park has failed to attract visitors and many facilities have deteriorated in recent years. The park's investor, Trung Long Company, recently decided to open the park for free. According to goalkeeper Quan Van Chuan, the second training session in Qatar lasted from 10pm on March 20 to midnight, or from 2 – 4am on March 21 in Vietnam. The entire team is now ready for the tournament, Chuan said, affirming that they will try their best and work hard for good results. Troussier is scheduled to attend a press conference on March 21 morning (local time), with the squad joining their last training session in the evening of the same day. Golf tournament in Vietnam’s Vinh Phuc suspended over illegal gambling
The Vietnam Golf Association has issued an announcement on the suspension of a golf tournament, which was set to take place at Heron Lake Golf Course in Vinh Phuc Province, northern Vietnam, from March 23 to 25, following a sting which caught 22 participating golfers gambling. The announcement was sent to teams taking part in the VGA Union Cup 2023 golf tournament by the deputy secretary general of the association on Thursday. The golf tournament will be rescheduled for a future date, said the association. Sixteen golfers from two teams were originally scheduled to play eight matches in the tournament. Most of these golfers are entrepreneurs from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and other localities. The Criminal Police Department on Monday teamed up with the Vinh Phuc Province police department to carry out a sting on a five-star hotel in Vinh Yen City where 22 of the tournament’s participating golfers were caught gambling and playing poker.
