CPP wins over 4.8 mln votes in Cambodia’s general election: committee
The election of the sixth National Assembly of Cambodia took place from 7am to 3pm on July 29, with voter turnout estimated at 82.17 percent. Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodia’s National Election Committee (NEC) announced on July 30 that the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) won the most votes in the general election on July 29, with more than 4.8 million or 76.78 percent. The CPP was followed by the National United Front for an Independent, Neutral, Peaceful, and Cooperative Cambodia (FUNCINPEC) with 373,500 votes (5.88 percent); the League for Democracy Party (LDP) with 308,000 votes (4.86 percent); and the Khmer Will Party (KWP) with 212,000 votes (3.35 percent). The remaining political parties received from more than 8,000 votes to 100,000 votes, or somewhere between 0.14 and 1.56 percent. (Photo: AFP/VNA) Phnom Penh (VNA) – The ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) won some 4.2 million out of more than 6.8 million votes in the country’s general election on July 29, or 61.7 percent, according to the party. The number of votes was much higher than that the CPP gained in the 2013 election which stood at 48.83 percent. The CPP was followed by the Grassroots Democratic Party (GDP) with over 560,000 votes, the National United Front for an Independent, Neutral, Peaceful and Cooperative Cambodia (FUNCINPEC) with 326,000 votes, the League for Democracy Party (LDP) with 268,000 votes and Khmer Will Party (KWP) with 183,000 votes. Romney concedes U.S. presidential election to Obama
Republican Mitt Romney conceded the U.S. presidential election to President Barack Obama early on Wednesday morning after a hard-fought campaign. Obama defeated Romney in a number of key swing states, despite the weak economic recovery and stubbornly high unemployment that dogged his campaign. Television networks called the election late on Tuesday, but the Romney campaign waited more than an hour to agree on the results in Ohio.
