According to an estimate by the National Innovation Centre under the Ministry of Planning and Investment, digital technology may bring Vietnam more than $74 billion by 2030, which is comparable to 27 per cent of Vietnam’s GDP in 2020. In Vietnam, the passage of this development might paradoxically result in the loss of a substantial number of current jobs. Conundrum ahead with robotics rise, source: shutterstock Hoang Nam Tien, chairman of FPT Telecom, predicted that approximately 70 per cent of the total 5.4 million Vietnamese workers will lose their jobs within the next decade. This includes 2.7 million textile workers, 1.7 million leather and footwear labourers, and nearly one million electronic assembly staff. Tien said, “Humans cannot compete with robots in terms of labour output and work hours. A series of robots have been imported into Vietnam in recent times. ‘Big Brother’ could improve behavior in Vietnam
I was thinking about the time when Japanese fans of the 2022 World Cup cleaned up the field after every game. By contrast, it is not difficult to encounter bad behaviors from certain Vietnamese people these days. These include spitting, littering, pushing and shoving, trespassing, breaking traffic laws, allowing pets to defecate in public, smoking and even swearing and fighting in public. These actions have tarnished the Vietnamese reputation abroad and have had far-reaching negative effects on health, safety, the environment, and many other things. Moreover, there are numerous pressing problems that need immediate attention, including workplace safety, fire prevention, pollution, food safety, and so on. The big question is whether we can eradicate all the harmful behaviors in all of these settings. It's possible, in my opinion, if the public and government work together as a united social system. Aside from factors like cultural traditions and education (by both parents and … [Read more...] about ‘Big Brother’ could improve behavior in Vietnam
England to ban some single-use plastic items from October
The decision follows a public consultation by the government in which 95% of respondents were in favor of the bans, the department said in a statement. "We all know the absolutely devastating impacts that plastic can have on our environment and wildlife," Environment Secretary Thérèse Coffey said. "These new single-use plastics bans will continue our vital work to protect the environment." Most plastics can remain intact for centuries and damage oceans, rivers and land where millions of tonnes end up as waste each year. The United Nations says decades of overuse of single-use plastics has caused a "global environmental catastrophe." The government said it is estimated England uses 2.7 billion items of single-use cutlery, most of which are plastic, a year as well as 721 million such plates, but only 10% end up being recycled. England's ban will also include single-use plastic trays, balloon sticks and some types of polystyrene cups and food containers. A ban on supplying … [Read more...] about England to ban some single-use plastic items from October

At least 67 people were confirmed dead Sunday after a plane with 72 on board crashed in Nepal, police said, in the Himalayan country's worst aviation disaster in three decades. Rescuers inspect the wreckage at the site of a plane crash in Pokhara on January 15, 2023. Six children were among those on board the ATR 72 twin-engine turboprop aircraft when it plummeted into a steep gorge, smashed into pieces and burst into flames in the central city of Pokhara, officials said. As light faded late Sunday and soldiers used ropes and stretchers to extract bodies from the 300-metre-deep (1,000-foot) ravine, there was no word on the fate of the five people still unaccounted for. "We are actively working to retrieve and identify the bodies as soon as possible and hand (them) over to their families," police official AK Chhetri told AFP at the crash site, which was still smouldering and strewn with aircraft debris, including the mangled remains of wings and passenger seats. … [Read more...] about At least 67 killed in Nepal plane crash

On Sunday, or the 24th day of the 12th lunar month, other people hurriedly returned to their hometowns, tidied up and decorated their houses, or went shopping, while five members of the Sai Gon Xanh squad collected waste on a smelly canal under the An Phu Bridge in Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City. “Members in the group come from farming families, so they are not afraid of hardship and difficulties," said Nguyen Luong Ngoc, 27, whose nickname is Shin, the leader of the group. “I formed this group as I was inspired by the Padawara group, which also pursues the same voluntary work in Indonesia. “We upload videos [on social networks] so that viewers will feel like … [Read more...] about Youngsters clean up canals in Ho Chi Minh City

Foreign business founders keen on Vietnam’s development potential
In addition to the country's economic potential, many foreign business owners say their love for Vietnam is what keeps them here “paying it forward” by improving the country’s national brand and human resource training. Holiday turned home Rafael Masters landed in Vietnam 14 years ago. A recent graduate, the British national had planned to travel the world and experience different cultures.
